| It seems like many of the pro wakeboarders are getting quite involved in wakeskating. Do you think many of them will drop wakeboarding for wakeskating? |

| i doubt it, they probably will stick to wakeboarding, and have wakeskating as just a fun thing to do, to get a break from wakeboarding every now and then....IMO atleast, some may switch all the way, if they begin to love it more, but its all personal prefereance, they do what they like |

Well every badass wakeskater was a badass wakeboarder a couple years ago, so of course more will make the move. Its getting bigger and the level of riding is getting better. This is just a hunch but I am sure more pros will get burnt out on wakeboarding. Sponsors have a lot of say so at that level though, there is hardly any money in wakeskating (it seems like they would bank on shoe royalties though).
I could see a couple of active riders making an impact in wakeskating for sure, like Parks or Swats. They both have bad knees and both kill it on a wakeskate, but don't commit to it b/c of all the comp riding and free riding they do. |

I'm not too sure about that. I've never heard of Brandon Thomas till this year, and never seen him on a wakeboard, maybe he has been on it though, but he was never famous for being "badass" like Harris or Parks. You also got Ryan Doyle, Joshua Steele, Danny Hampson, who also weren't famous for being badass at being a wakeboarder. Wakeskating is getting some money now though too (not that it's important though, for me anyway), you got that $5000 purse at the tour stops now and wakeskaters getting sponsored by boat/board companies too. _________________ Behind the boat house, I'll show you my DOCK SECRET

Good call, I was referring to the big named pros, that was the basis of the first post, I should have made that more clear. All the big team riders like Grubb, Drew, Byerly, Horrell, etc.. were big name wakeboarders throwing down some of the biggest tricks in the late 90's, early 00's.
The younger wakeskaters are definitely big up-and-comers for the sport, but the post was talking about pros making the switch. And there isn't much money in wakeskating at all. Sponsors help to fund the cause and hand out gear but they don't mail out big paychecks. Unless you win the $5000 purse or if you have a shoe named after you. Thomas will do great things with Cassette, Hyperlite will make good money off their decks, and other sponsors will catch on and start chipping in more and helping riders out, but wakeskating is not there quite yet. |

Was Aaron Reed a wakeboarder before he got into a wakeskating? I dont think he was. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

Aaron Reed was in fact a wakeboarder. The first time I rode with Aaron, he wasn't even into wakeskating and was working on a ts 720 and a batwing. The last time I rode with Aaron, he strapped on a wakeboard just for fun and went off like he does it every day.
Wakeskating is growing so fast. Don't be surprised if you see more pros crossing over. They are where they are today because they like a challenge and like to push their skills to the max. Wakeskating is much more of a challenge and is very appealing to people like that. I'm sure they all won't drop their wakeboards completely and only wakeskate, but I would be willing to bet that a lot more of them will be seen in pictures and on videos wakeskating. The pros are on the forefront of the industry, they definitely know what's up. |

Then I stand corrected But when the guy said badass I was assuming he meant on the level where he gets recognition like Parks/Harris/Ruck/Harf/Watson and etc. _________________ Behind the boat house, I'll show you my DOCK SECRET

Yeah I meant the big name wakeskaters, they were all pro wakeboarders not too long ago, for example some people don't know that Thomas used to wakeboard 7 days a week throwing down huge grabbed mobes and had his own signature board.
Very few riders were wakeskaters prior to 2 seasons ago, even the up and comers that are just known at the local level still come from a wakeboarding background. Wakeskating is a movement made up of wakeboarders that found a new love and migrated over, so it is very safe to say that more pros will dedicate their time to wakeskating. Can you imagine how crazy the videos will be 10 years from now??? |
