|
|
Okay, my router is just randomly disconnecting like every 2 minutes. It is a Linksys BEFSR81 ...I've updated the firmware, tried restarting it, unplugging it, resetting it... everything. I tried a direct connection to my computer without the router, it works better but my connection still seems to die and then I have to re-enable it if I leave the computer for extended periods of time. WTF is going on?
I also bought a new wireless router and the thing won't even install... it detects my connection, then asks for a password. After I type it in, it asks for it again and just loops in the setup screen. WTF mate??? Any ideas. |

It doesn't seem to be a router problem if its happening with a direct connection to the modem. Have you tried power cycling your modem?
If not I'd call support on both your provider and linksys.
the default password for linksys is admin with the username blank. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Wakebrad, yep... power cycled modem too. I wonder if it's my computer.
linksys are a bunch of tards. they read off a script, and a very bad one at that. |

ontrider, sounds like user error to me. Get a tackhammer and use it to smash your brains in.
Seriously though....
Why do you want a wired router AND a wireless one?
Which wireless router do you have? Are you accessing the interface with Firefox? If so do you use NoScript? _________________

ontrider, it does sound like your computer. If it were me I'd go buy a new NIC and see if that fixes it, if not return it. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| chavez, I don't want both. The first router is like 3 years old. I bought the WRTG54 (new one) because I thought my old router was toast, but neither work. Maybe it is the card... but the computer is only a year or so old. I hate networking problems. |

ontrider, I'd go to the card at this point. Unless you suspect the cablemodem/dslmodem.
Network problems suck ass. _________________

Okay, just to let you guys know - it wasn't the grilled cheese in the modem!
It actually turned out to be a dead cable! porkchop!
So I got the new wireless router going now too... all cause of a stupid cord. |

Speaking of which my wireless router randomley drops all wireless connections every few hours but the hardwired computers continue to stay connected the router needs to be cycled to start working again. As ive used several different routers and still have this problem on multiple computers im convinced it is something about where i live. Infact i have yet to find a wirless network anywhere tht works more then 85% of the time. WIRELESS SUCKS. _________________ They know what is what but they dono what is what they just strut. |

Jibsta, my home network works almost 100% of the time. I've had 2 drops that I can think of in more than a year. Both were caused by AT&T dropping the DSL connection. _________________

chavez, I ve tried countless routers in countless locations with countless computers and theyr is always issues sure 95% of the time they will work but random disconnects happen way to much i think it has alot to do with the fact that other electronics operate on the same frequencys and when your in a neihbourhood where everyone has wirless and cordless phones these problems are just bound to happen. _________________ They know what is what but they dono what is what they just strut. |

Jibsta, I have the same problem with connections dropping, it sucks!
I did name my new wireless network "Free Internet" today though, and locked it right afterwards. I'm such an ass. |

ontrider, Computers are the only thing ever created by man and sold as a professional grade product that hardly work, if you think about it. And its only because we are limited by our own intelligence. _________________ They know what is what but they dono what is what they just strut. |

i use a wireless router and don't ever have problems. occasionally i've got to power-cycle my modem but that's about it.
try changing the channel you're using.
my wireless network is named JamesBond... guess what i was watching when i set it up last summer. haha |
