I seem to really be struggling with my W2W height. My dad has a Prostar 190 and really doesnt want to weigh it down with ballast. I can get about 3-4 foot high, but i seem to have to put so much effort into my pop that is stuggle with my rotations afterwards.
Is it me or is it the boat? |

Mr Magoo, people land inverts in the flats, a boat to me, is never an excuse.
Sure, big wakes help and whatnot, but there is no reason why you can't progress behind something with a small wake, you can still continue to practice and get better. Work on edging correctly, and coming at the wake with a nice progressive edge. Good luck |

I was able to land a tantrum off a PS190 in the ocean (unweighted). But it sure wasn't easy. The wake on that boat sucks and it's still not great even if you weight the heck out of it. You will have to work for it but if you get your basics down it will help you so much in the future. Work on getting all of the variations of 180s (frontside/backside) (regular/switch) (toeside/heelside) and the same with 360s.
Ask your dad if you can load some ballast as long as the boat stays below capacity. If he says no invite some fat friends out with you. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Mr Magoo, is your board a continuous rocker? I switched from an old tiny continuous to the 3-stage PS3 and added a couple feet of air. Hopefully with some ballast this year and a tower I can get it up to 6ft.
If i were you I'd definitely look at a new board if the one you are on now has a continuous rocker. _________________ Wake Forest University |

I agree that technique is important but you can only progress so far behind a small wake. I have been riding behind a bayliner for the most part for all of my wakeboarding life, but when i ride behind my friends SAN or Wakesetter my height increases by a foot or two, and I am able to do many more tricks without working nearly as hard. But it helps to have ridden behind a bayliner for so long. I have learned how to maximize a little baby wake, so when i go out and hit a real wake with the same force and speed combined with technique i do very well for myself. _________________ check it out http://www.wakesiderides.com/rides/index.php?page=out&id=1562 |

| could be the speed you ride and the rope length, if you cant get enough speed cutting into the wake try going faster or shortening the rope |

The only time to blame the boat:
I'm rocking behind an 18 foot I/O and am having no problem with learning. I can see your dad not wanting ballast in the boat with gas prices as high as they are.
There are a few things you could try, such as speeding up the boat and taking a more aggressive approach, or doing as P_R said and shorten the rope. _________________

devon,
I've done it as well. I wouldn't say 30 seconds, but it takes a while. No wake at all. It's fun if you like pissing off whoever is driving by steering for them though. |

an instructional DVD or video, this will help you to teach you a good progressive edge... _________________ * riding finless teaches you to get your edge down properly, when you do it with fins, you'll be able to cut like OJ Simpson

I hate to say it but i pretty much disagree with this- i do not think it matters what board you ride and what type of rocker it has. Sure some people PREFER one over the other, but there are pros riding continuous and there are pros riding 3-stage....i have always ridden a 3 stage and am riding a continuous this year and honestly cant tell a huge difference...and i do not think that one will give you a noticably larger amount of air (as in feet)-- just my opinion... |

Those boats are awesome for surface tricks. We've never owned anything like that, but I've ridden behind my friends' fishing boats many times and getting surface tricks down is easy cheese. _________________

yeah I tried that and it helped me, but there are so many variables. Try it and see.

| I really think it comes down to practicing. With a different boat it may make it easier but wouldn't it be more satisfying to know you can do it behind any boat? |
