Hi all. I had the pleasure of trying wakesurfing last year for the first time and really enjoyed it. I'd like to look into doing alot more surfing this year, so I'm looking into possibly investing in some sacs and/or a surfboard to get me going.
I have a 98 Air Nautique DD with just the stock 400lbs ballast right now. (hard tank in the rear storage locker) What would you recommend for sac placement? So far the plan is to add more to the rear possibly another sac on top of the hard tank in the rear locker, and another sac in the floor ski locker. Being a DD boat I'm sure rear weight would be a large help. If I had those two sacs I could get all the people in the boat to get on one side to weigh that side down as much as possible at least. Or for surfing maybe even pull the locker sac out and put in on whichever side of the engine we're surfing on when needed. Any advice here?
I wouldn't mind investing in a 3rd sac at some point to put on either side of the engine for surfing, but not sure that's in the budget right now. And the sidewalls of that boat aren't very tall, I don't want to risk too much ballast and weighing the boat down too much, but not sure how much weight that would require etc. Just want to keep it safe. Shooting for a target of at least 1300-1500 pounds water ballast not counting people in the boat etc. Do you think this is sufficient?
Also wondering about getting a starter surfboard that would work fairly well for smaller wakes. I don't know what kind of wake I'll have until we get more ballast in there, but I"m sure will be smaller than a heavily weighted V-drive boat. A friend of mine said I can use his Hyperlite Broadcast any time I need to, I enjoyed riding it last yet but felt like I needed a bit more wake to get the most out of it. I know my priority is ballast right now not only to make a good surfing wake but improve my wakeboarding wakes as well. But I'd like some thoughts on some boards that you think work well on small-medium wakes.
Thanks! |

I have a Hyperlite 5'6" Landlock that we have used for some time with the present boat and the last. The last boat had a smaller wake that it worked well on. Lately I have been riding a prototype Composite 5.0 from the Walker Project, this board his more responsive, lighter but, still a great cruiser. Might be something for you to look into as a good around board for your boat. _________________ Surf's Up!!!

Get the Inland Blue Lake or Red Tide model.
The Blue is more agressive, but both will work well on small-med wakes.
Good luck! _________________ my silly wakesurfing blog
