I have put a hold deposit on new 2006 Supra 22ssv (walk-thru). The boat is at a dealer 300 miles away. The boat is well equipped!! My local dealer does not have any 06's in stock. The price is $43,500. What do you think about this deal. I have not seen the boat yet. What are your feelings on the 22ssv?

Includes:
Gravity 3 ballast (I beleive this is std)
2 tower speakers
4 channel amp
10' sub
cockpit cover
bow cover
mooring cover
forward bimini top
tower mirror
perfect pass wb pro
dual axle trailer w/brakes

I don't know specifically about Supra prices but that sounds pretty good for a new '06. The 22SSV is a great boat with the GG ballast. The wakeplate is also very helpful if you can get them to throw that in. I thought it would never get used but we use it every set to tune the wake and save gas while the boat is coming off plane.

Pull the trigger Wink

One of the drawbacks I have read is the storage is not great. Can anyone speak to this?

The GG sacks pretty much fill up th entire v-drive compartments and the center compartment all the way to the play-pen.

So for storage you really only have under the passenger dash and under the seats. It's not great but there's not much else you can do without making the boat bigger. The 24SSV has a ton of room and storage but unless you're brining 8-10 people to the lake it's over-kill.

I generally board with 3-4 people. When the boat is pack with people it means the kids are with us. We all know what that means.

The day goes like this...

Swim, tube, swim, swim, tube, wakeboard, ski, swim, swim, tube, swim, wakeboard, swim, go home.

Is there anything I should know about storing gear when the bags are not going to be used. Also...what is the wake like without filling the bags (just using the plate). I currently have a 2005 SeaRay 185 sport with a monster tower and Perfect Pass. The wake is not too bad for a 18.5' I/O. How would it compare?

I'd see if you could have that boat transfered over to your local dealer to complete the sale. Either that or make sure your local dealer is aware of what is going on so getting service will not be an issue.

Jon makes a good point. Keep your local dealer in the loop.

We usually go with 3-4 people and it's fine. For the days when the kids are out just don't fill up the sacks and you have plenty of room in the v-drive compartments and in the center locker. The wake without weight is decent. I don't mind riding a smaller wake though. And when you're out with that many people/stuff you will have added weight in the boat anyway.

I had an 05 22SSV before trading it in on an 07 this year. Yeah, the storage isn't great but because the seat doesn't wrap all the way around, we just ended up storing more items on the floor rather than under seats. We've had 13 people (6 adults) on the boat although crowded, was still manageable with all the gear. The wakeplate is a must. Even with no ballast you can adjust the wake to your liking (just on a smaller scale). Boat was really easy to manuever. That's a great price too. You won't be dissapointed.

The 22SSV is a great boat. I have a 2004 and love it. Storage can be a pain with tubes and gear for the entire family, but when you have a full boat on days like that you don't really need the sacs filled all the way anyway (if you have the upgraded GG sacs). Therefore, you will have room for storage on top of the sacs. If you keep the stock sacs you can fill them all the way and still have room in the rear lockers for storage.

The walk-thru version, however, will not allow you to use the upgraded GG sac in the front locker like you can with the play pen version. This is vitally important if you plan on riding larger wakes without having to throw extra sacs on top of the bow seats. The GG front sac is close to 1000 pounds of ballast. In the walk-thru version I believe the most you can get in the locker is 400-600 lbs. The front stock sac that comes with it is 400 lbs. However, if you are consistently heading out with a full boat you can easily ratio the weight with people ballast. Also, you can always hide lead or other weights under the front bow seats. There's not a lot of room under there for storage anyway, so you might as well put some lead in there Very Happy .

The Gravity III ballast system is standard as well as the wake plate. The stock rear sacs are 250 lbs each. Coming from an I/O the wake should be great, especially with a boat full of people. I typically only ride with 2-3 pepple in my boat, so I run the play pen version with about 2200-2400lbs total ballast. Storage isn't an issue for me since I hardly ever have a full boat.

I think the price is right on for all that you are getting, PP WBP and upgraded stereo. It's definitely tougher to find these boats under 50K these days, especially since they changed the hull for 2007. I say grab it while you can. It's a great boat that throws a great wake.

Thanks for the pointer on the local dealer. I will give them a call and let the know. I talked to dealer with the boat in stock and "pulled to trigger". I am really excited about getting this boat. I cannot pick it up for a week. It has the flame graphic and I am having the graphic changed as part of the deal (not a fan of the flame"). The deal is done pending a "sea trial". I cannot image not falling in love with the SSV once it gets on the water.

Another thing I was reading about was "priming the ballast". Is there a trick to this? [/quote]

To prime the ballast just turn the ballast switch on and then drive the boat for about 10 seconds. It's just a matter of forcing water up through the intake and forcing the air in the lines out.

Don't listen to a guy named Nauty about Supra advice. He can't know what he's talking about. Wink Laughing Laughing

Congrats on the purchase.

Brad ..... the Supra 24 is overkill? NO rides for you!! Razz

I actually think it is perfect for the family because even with 5 people & gear anyboat can get crowded. The 24 throws one of the best wakes of any of the larger boats for sure. I use all the space in my 24 but I am a pack rat. Rolling Eyes

gene3x, I've never seen your boat with the bow cover off. And the bow is huge!

It's probably because I don't ride with you on weekends very often and there's usually only 2-3 of us. I'd say that if you're brining 8-12 people out consistently then the 24 is absolutely worth it.

I agree with Brad. For my use, the 24ssv is a little much. I also have a mental block on what to spend on a boat. I know the previous statment will probally get me kicked off the forums Smile.

I am just looking forward to riding this year on a boat that can throw a "real" wake. The temp here in the Cincinnati area could be better...but I still plan on riding by May 1st.

I also cannot wait to cruise down to Norris (TN) for a week and have a new boat. It seems like every WB boat I see down there is a Supra. I ran into a crew (filming) last year sporting a pair of 24SSVs. The boat is AWESOME. I fell in love with with the Supra brand after checking out the boats at the Pennington Marina. I also saw a houseboat at the Straight Creek Boat Dock with four supras tied up. Impressive sight.

Any other tips or questions I should ask the dealer before/at delivery?

Flower Mound isn't too far from me. My in-laws live there.

As far as fuel goes, running 2200-2400 lbs of ballast, 3 riders, 3 sets each, I will burn a half a tank (20 gallons) easy. Maybe a little more.

No problem!

I will, however, suggest upgrading your sacs to larger ones as you get used to the transition from an I/O to this boat. The wake is absolutely incredible with 2000 + lbs.

Congrats on your new boat. Now let's see some pics!
