i have snowboarded for 10 years and this past season picked up skiing and love it. i like doing the jumps on skis and the boxes and rails on the snowboard. it is nice to have an option to swtich if i am having a bad day of boarding or skiing.

skiing is far easier then snowboarding. i basically picked up skiing this season with the exception of skiing twice 4 years ago. when it comes to the park i find skiing a little harder then snowboarding. that could be because i have snowboarded for a long time and know the edges a lot better then skiing, but for someone just starting out skiing is a lot easier.

cezza, No it is not normal for it to be snowing here in Vancouver. I don't remember the last time it snowed in April. But it's more common in March but not that often. It is warming up a lot here now and the mountains are starting to close.

ikonxone, to be honest im not really into the skiing thing aye..i just could never imagine me doing rails on a pair of skis- but thats just me haha..each to there on and i suppose if your a keen skier and keen for rails then go for it eh.

kdip, so if it keeps on snowing does it mean the mountains stay open longer or they still have to close on a certain date?

cezza, I don't think the mountains stay open even if there is snow, because they need to do work on the mountains and everything. They are closing this weekend and they still have a 400+cm base.

meadows and timberline are expecting 6-10" overnight.

meadows is open until the end of April with an 8ft. base, timberline is open all year with a currently 145" base.

i dunno, i think closing with plenty of snow has something to do with the cost of staying open, though noone complains about opening too early. Laughing

cezza, I have a friend who works up at Grouse and he said that they close even though they have plenty of snow, is becuase they make most of there moneyin the summer. So they have to get ready for the summer, but it would be sick if it stayed open longer.

The only possibilitie to hike up there is to do the Grouse grind. Which is stairs going up to the mountain and takes an hour I think. Because Grouse you take a Tram up to the accual runs and stuff. So no we don't hike up there, but it would be sweet.
