This seems to be a pretty common issue with riders so I thought I would ask about it here:
I have a soar spot at the top of my forearm, right past the bend in my elbow. Its my lead arm and it gets extremely inflamed after riding. I can work out with no problems and strengthening makes no difference at all. I showed it to a Dr. friend and he said its definitely a build-up of scar tissue around the muscle.
The common agents like ice, cortisone and anti-inflammatories help but they only supress the pain, which I'm not interested in (pain = problem). Is there any non-surgical methods of helping or healing scar tissue? Any specific type of doctors I should see about it?
Two good things- it forces me to do a lot more switch riding/jumping and also not landing toeside jumps one-handed. The pull of the line is a killer, it suucks. |

Jim M, I'm no doctor and I'm not going to say what your doctor said was wrong but I had a similar problem, and if its the same thing I had, all you've got is a case of epichondilitis (SP!), otherwise known as tennis elbow...Whats happening is that the tendon in your lead arm is taking alot more tension than its used to and its saying "WTF man?"...One way to treat this is to get a tennis elbow brace from walgreens or pubix or wherever. You wear it right below your elbow and it takes pressure off the tendon. Unfortunately theres a trade off, and it will put all of that pressure off of your elbow and into your forearm muscles. So after a sesh your forearm is going to be worn out...Eventually though, as has been my experience, your forearm will adapt and be able to handle the stress and it will take alot of the stress off of your elbow to even it out. Another thing you can do is take maybe 400 to 600 MG's of ibuprofen (Before your set preferably) to help the inflamation. But if this really is a muscle problem, the strap might help out as well... You might want to throw that out to your doctor and see what he says. Hope this helps some... _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

Second the strap, worked great when i had a bad case of baby arm...
Why would you have scar tissue there? Did you injure it or have surgery? _________________ <insert witty banter here> |

I cheated and got a cortisone shot today. Immediate and astounding relief for a $20 co-pay, can't deny the benefits of that sh##.
RufioSwashbuckle, that was a pretty accurate analysis. It is a case of the E-word(sp) on my upper forearm. The tendons have been stretched and stressed past their threshold and are crying for help.
I will try the support strap thing as well. Gotta stay on the water somehow. I am no good at accepting the role of designated driver. |
