I currently have a Chaparral I/O and its fine, but I am thinking about upgrading in the next year or two. I want a direct drive (DD) and the Mastercraft, is of course, extremely popular. I had the opportunity to climb around a '99 205 a couple days ago, and I liked it a lot. I am considering either the '96-'00 205, or looking for an '01-present 209. I havent really been able to find out the major differences between the two boats (hulls, options, etc). Cost is always a concern, of course, but I also plan on buying once and keeping that boat long term, so I want to make sure I get the best one for me.
Thanks |

To help those help you, you may want to give more details on intended use and such... _________________ 2018 MasterCraft XT20 |

Some skiing, some wakeboarding - probably equal time on each. We also like to spend time anchored and swimming or just hanging around. My I/O does everything I need it to, but I would prefer an inboard setup rather than the I/O. As I get better at skiing and wakeboarding, it would be nice to sell my Chaparral and get something else.
So I guess I am looking for a good, multi-purpose inboard that give me long term service. |

If that's the case, either will do what you want. Obviously the 209 is going to have more room (wider beam). With that comes a wider wake for wakeboarding, but maybe(?) a little more flat wake for skiing.
We have friends that have an X9 (209 wakeboard edition) and it suits there needs b/c they are 3 event people (wakeboard, slalom, barefoot).
I don't feel that I can offer you much b/c I don't have much experience with the 209 or the DD 205. I am obviously biased towards the 205/205V hull, but that is because our tastes are specific to wakeboarding.
List your priorities in order of importance and determine which one is best for you.
Sorry...not much help. Maybe do a search for each or see if you can post over on www.tmcowners.com
Take care,

I have a 2005 X-9 for sale right now and an X-1 (205V) on order. I really like the X-9 wake for boarding. It is a bit big for slower skiing at long rope lengths. At 34-36 mph at 28 off or shorter, it is great. The 209 hull is better than the 205 hull at wakeboarding in the DD version. The 209 was never made into the V-drive version (the old X-10 was close, though). I'll be taking a slalom run on the X-1 Friday, so I'll know more after that on skiing ability. Since I run the MI INT and have great access to slalom boats, but limited access to wakeboard boats, I got the wakeboard boat and will spend more time mooching off buds with the 197 hull for the slalom fix.
My X-9 is red, MCX, PP Pro, and loaded. _________________ Original Boarder from 1983
