I have seen it done several times. I went and did it myself for a few people before they went on a trip. It was in the teens and below when they were there but I used a warm temp wax. I didn't know what the weather was going to be like and there wasn't any all-temp available.

When they got back, I asked how their skis worked. They said they sucked and that they felt like sand paper. Obviously a cold temp wax would have been better but I figured it would have been better to have the warm wax over no wax at all.

also, I know I scrapped it all off.

So was the "sand paper" feeling from the warm wax or did I do something else wrong?

finkle, personally I don't think the difference would be enough to warrent a "sandpaper" rating, so I would guess that you did something wrong. Did you texture the base after scraping? Also was there a chance there was ice frozen to the bottom of their skis?
