The search for a car is on. I've been looking at Westfalias a lot and thought I'd keep a car as an option. This is kind of a branch off from that Westy Vs. 4Runner thread of mine from before.

I'm just curious about the Eagle Talon. It's a 4 cyl. Turbo with all wheel drive, and they're running for pretty cheap in buy and sell and ebay. I'd like to think of them as cheap Subarus.

Also, to my understanding, this is pretty much the same car as a mid to late 90's Mitsubishi Eclipse GSI and a Plymouth Laser RS.

"Ricer" is not on my most wanted list, but if I get a car, I'd want something AWD with a 4 cyl. That would be good for commutes and be able to get me up the ski hill - where I'm guessing turbo would be handy.

Is it a good car, worth it, or crap?

Car: (sorry, don't know how to resize)

Thanks!

That sums it up nicely. How many Eagle's do you see on the road?

the talons and eclipse have their issues, but everyone i know that had one liked it.

the problems were usually with oil leaks or related issues. but the guys that i knew with them
drove them HARD and also did their own work.
so it might have something to do with that.

also "Ricer" is not a type of car it's a way of fixing up that car, and or the drivers attitude.

Holy crap, is that a Cooper pickup in the background (the white one)? If it can tow 8K, I'll take one. Are the kids still saying "Pimp"? If so, it's pimp. If not, you'll have to help me with the new vernacular.

Very very fast cars. I'd beware of that one though, it looks like it's been molested.

I always hear these are a love hate thing.

You love them when they are running right - but you hate them most of the time. Neutral

It's a car made by a company that doesn't exist any more. What does that tell you?

jt09, well, it was made by chrysler, and was the american version of japan's mitsu FTO. It was just marketed by a company that's no longer around

? DSM is still technically alive and well... Now known as Mitsubishi Motors North America.

Eagle Talon = Mitsubishi Eclipse...

Yup same car. Slightly different front bumper shape around head lights, different tail lights/rear bumper, and the Mitsu didn't have that Colorful 2 tone.

QNev, just watch out for the almighty crankwalk that occurs all too commonly in these motors. (Look on google for "crankwalk" and you'll see what I mean.)

Do a quick search for an Audi 80 or 90 quattro, or better yet its older sibling the Audi 4000 quattro. Lockable center and rear differentials make it essentially unstoppable in the snow. Super easy to work on and safe.

DRAGON88, I'm liking the Quattros more, but they're a little steeper in cost. Crankwalk sounds like a bitch and it's surprising there were no recalls on it Confused

A 160-horsepower turbocharged engine went into the RS coupe, which had permanently engaged 4-wheel drive instead of front drive. The RS came only with 5-speed manual shift.

I might be partial, but these little cars are FUN! Decent fuel economy, and with bolt on parts, capable of producing 300 + hp. (but then they are not as reliable)
