So I got a hold of a Nintendo Wii and am wondering what games are cool? I have played the sports that comes with it and Raving Rabids but nothing else. I really like the sports games. Any experience with Madden on the Wii? Any game suggestions?

I got one a week and a half ago (waited for 4 hours outside of bestbuy).

I haven't played it but I heard Madden is awesome for the Wii. The game controls make it so much better than the controller versions. Out of all of the consoles Madden on the Wii was ranked the highest.

My personal reviews of games I've rented:
1. Red Steel. I really liked this game. It takes a couple missions to get comfortable with the controls but it gets better as it goes. More moves and features. The storyline at the beginning is annoying but you get into it after a while.
2. Call of Duty. Working on it now. Not as good as I was hoping.
3. Marvel ultimate alliance. Not great. Only played it for about an hour but it wasn't as much fun as I was hoping in 4 player mode.
4. Need for speed carbon. Pretty fun. The driving controls are different and interesting.
5. WarioWare smooth moves. Really weird game but goofy and a lot of fun. A lot more fun while you're drinking.

J-Ro, Madden is pretty fun. That's the only other game I've play besides the basics that come with it.

Excite Truck is a great game for lots of people, we just play single player and pass the remote after each race. Great for boozing as you get a break

Call of Duty 3 - Freaking awesome i dont know what your talking about Wakebrad, once you get the controls down its freaking sweet.

Zelda - You have to be a zelda fan, but if u have a nintendo you probably already are. Its a great game for locking your self in a room for hours and playing.

I got the Wii last weekend, i haven't been getting much sleep though. There is a game called Smooth moved, extremely hokey but fun. I need to find some extra controllers they are more impossible to find than the Wii itself

Are the component cables that much better? I have a 480p HDTV.

Why are the controllers so friggin expensive?

Has anyone played Super Mario Party 8? Is it cool for kids?

J-Ro,
Component is better than straight video. Much crisper. Most people I think, can see the difference with an HDTV.

I just upgraded to the component cables and can notice a significant difference on my 61" DLP. Get them off ebay though. The only ones I've seen in stores are the $50 gamestop ones. I just bought $11 cables on ebay.

I just got done playing Red Steel the week before and it seems more exciting. The game controls and weapons are better. You can zoom in and out to hit long range targets. I've already got the controls down. It just seems kind of dull after Red Steel. I also have had trouble with aiming the different weapons. It's hard to tell exactly how the sight correlates to the shot for every weapon.

I think I'm pretty early on in the game on the first car driving mission. I keep getting blown up and I don't know why or how to stop it. I just don't have much desire to try it again for some reason.

Wakebrad,
Try this site for cables next time you need an expensive one.

http://www.cyberguys.com/

Another Chavez recommendation that has saved me alot of money in cables. HDMI - $20, DVI, Component, etc etc etc.

Great quality too.

oshensurfer, I just did a search for Wii and nothing came up. Is that mainly for standard cables?

Wakebrad,
Yeah. Sorry. Didn't realize they went proprietary for theirs. It's my wifes cousins Wii. My bet is that they might be able to hook you up if you call.. Either way, that company rocks. I've bought 3 high end cables and saved over $250 by shopping there, including shipping.

Is the S video proprietary also?

Cheaper cables: http://www.monoprice.com/home/?CartID=&style=

I bought 2 HDMI cables for $8 each, $150 at best buy.....

J-Ro,
That's wierd. After WB posted that I looked at the Nintendo website and it says output on the Wii can be component or S-video.

So to revive an old thread.

I have gotten a few games since then.

Wii Play- This game is good for little kids. I got it for the remote when they were impossible to find.

Madden - This is pretty sweet and is easier for me than regular Madden because I can't remember the 6,000 buttons and combinstions. I always dive when I wanted to juke. Graphics are really good, surprisingly.

Tiger Woods 07- DAMN, this is what the wii was made for. It is simply the closest you can get to golfing without going outside. Graphics are good, it's challenging, and has a lot of mini games when you get bored.

I've got a Wii and have played a few games. GameFly is the way to go, its the Netflix of games.

Here is what I've played:
Wii Sports - Consistenly fun, especially Tennis and Golf
Rayman Raving Rabits - Tons of fun mini-games and puzzles, made by people on Acid
Excite Truck - Fun, unrealistic racing game. Makes good use of the controllers.
SSX Blur - Great looking snowboarding game, I'm having a hell of a time with the control though. Seems to do whats its supposed to do about 1/2 the time. I was an ace at the PS2 versions, I am stinking up the joint on the Wii.
Madden07 - Lots of fun playing against a friend, the SP is boring IMO. Good use of the controller via throwing, kicking, runs, tackles, swats, etc.

My kids have been killing me about a WII.. Everytime we leave the house they look for the console. Lucky for me they are ALWAYS sold out.. One day soon they are going to find one and I am going to have to drop the money and get it.

Or ask the retailer and find out that, "that particular console has already been reserved." Laughing

Not very easily. Everyone I know has had to go into stalker, crazy-consumer mode to find one. I had to camp a Circuit City in the rain on a Sunday morning to get ours like a month or two ago.
