Okay, I have a small problem with a couple of my clients and am looking for some suggestions how to deal with them without pissing them off too much. Basically, I invoice them all monthly but I have a few that are super slow to pay me. They always do pay... eventually, so I'm not worried about them just leaving me high and dry, but I am getting tired of chasing after them for payment. Is it too much to expect to get paid within 30 days!? I have one with oustanding invoices since Oct. and another from last Aug.
They bring in some okay coin for me, so I don't want to harass them too much or do anything drastic to piss them off, but at the same time I'd like to be paid obviously. Any suggestions? |

ontrider, Most people that invoice me have late payment penalties or interest. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

oshensurfer, yeah, i was thinking of adding interest every 30 days. I just wasn't sure how they'd react since I've been pretty relaxed with them. I guess sometimes you have to put your foot down. |

I would go with oshensurfer's suggestion. Just send a notice that all future invoices will accure X amount of interest every 30 days or whatever. Maybe if you keep it pretty low it won't piss them off but be enough to get them to pay up a bit quicker. |

ontrider, You're not a bank making a free loan. They'll understand. Just make it clear on the invoices in bold that payments past due will incur $X penalty or a %.
No big deal. It's on damn near every invoice or bill I've ever seen. You have the choice to enforce it too. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

oshensurfer, I've already added it to the one's I sent out for March. thank you!
Yes, I can probably enforce it rather easily since I know two people who run collection agencies. |

ontrider, No worries, I'll take my consulting fee in cash.
What I meant on enforcment is let them slide the first time like you're doing them a favor. Then the next time, they'll either feel too guilty to not pay in time OR you slap them with a late charge. Their choice. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

To top on to this topic, I'm in a spot where I need to find a good way to collect monthly from customers. Any suggestions? I dread the old fashion way (see Ontrider above ) . I am not to the point where I could take any kind of payment online, except for Paypal. And I know businesses like to use checks still. HRALP. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

As a business owner, I would suggest you communicate your frustrations w/ them. Express their importance as your customer, but explain their slow payments are messing up your book keepers, quarterly tax payments and ultimately costing you more money, that might have to be remedied by a interest rate on invoices that are past due the net 30 terms. _________________
