Title says it all, mah Moms is interviewing and wants to run background checks. The goal being cheap and simple. Recommendations appreciated. |

Rhawn, You get what you pay for.
Most of those companies do criminal by county, make sure you cover ALL the appropriate counties to be checked.
Also make sure your mom has signed documention from the applicants authorizing her to do them.

It is always safest, legally, to have consent prior to running something like a background check. This way, there can be no claim that the applicant's privacy was invaded, and they can also remove themselves from the candidate pool if they feel that there are things that they would not want you to know in their background.
If the background check includes a run of credit report, consent is REQUIRED as stated in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. §1681). I also seem to recall that you cannot discriminate due to past bankruptcies. It's always best to keep the background check related to areas applicable to the job. |
