It has come down to one of these 2 boats new for the money. Spare me the talk about getting a supra or SAN...I know. I don't want the hassle of a used point period.

So here is the deal. I can either of these 2 boats for the money I am looking to spend. 5k difference between the 2, Mobius being the more expensive. Both come with wake towers, no racks, and no ballast system. So things are pretty much the same all around outside the hual.

What do you guys think?

I have got the outback 2003. I love it. It has the factory 600 lb fat sac in the back. I put 2 350 side sacs and a 550 up front. The wake is great. THis boat is the best for the money.

In my opinion, don't buy either. In November 02 I brought a brand new Mobius LSV. It's been back to the shop 3 times (six weeks total) for a litany of problems. The guages went haywire. The boat started overheating. The trailer torsion bar broke, stranding me on the lake and wrecking the tire and fender. A circuit board or something went out. The voltmeter/alternator went out, sending battery acid fumes throughout the boat after a couple of hours of riding.

Oh, and the transmission still leaks (a very serious problem, I'm told)-- after three attempts to fix. Surrounded by empty transmission bottles, I'm looking at a bilge full of transmission fluid, and the dealer is telling me I "may" have a problem.

I also question whether Skiers Choice is really committed to providing timely and quality repair work for items covered by their warranty. Oh, they'll "feel your pain", but it's a bit tough to ride behind empathy. The dealer has tried three times to repair the transmission, and it still leaks. For the fourth attempt, I proposed to the dealer and Skier's Choice that they make an appointment, then the day before the appointment they pick up the boat and take it to where it will be repaired. They would have two weeks to repair the transmission, and if they couldn't get the boat repaired by then, they'd pay me $75 a day until the boat was back to me(remember this is the fourth attempt at fixing the transmission). I have not received a response from Skier's Choice; the dealer wrote me a nasty letter and told me to pound sand. Their only promise is that they'll "fix the boat." No firm commitment on time. It took them two weeks to replace the alternator-- in the winter time.

Everything takes a pounding in wakeboarding-- including the boat. My guess is the cheap plastic locks on my ski locker and glove compartment are the same as the ones you're looking at. Check those things out. Check out the spring that opens and closes the glove box. Bottom line is this: you will get what you pay for.

If I had to do it over, I'd look at one of the more expensive boats and would only buy from a dealer close to my home that convinces me they have the service and repair capacity to repair in a timely manner the boats they sell. My Moomba dealer is 90 miles away and it seemed like the shop was just all in one pretty small place. I think the salesman guy also does the repairs and does boat delivery, as well. I'm not sure but that's how it seems. You may pay a little more for the boat, but it seems to me that this approach and paying more is the best chance you have of increasing your odds that you will have a pleasant overall boating experience.

The mobius has a bigger fuel tank which is nice. It doesn't take long to go through 28 gallons of gas. I haven't tried both but it seems that people generally prefer the vdrive mobius because the weight in the back of the boat causes the hull to create less lift and displace more water, resulting in a better wakeboard wake. Get the Mobius. It has a better hull for wakeboarding. If the Outback is an LS, get it, but if not go for the Mobius. Thats weird about the Mobius not having ballast. I thought all came at least the rear ballast. I love my Mobius and I'm sure you'll be happy with both but I would prefer the Mobius.

We love our mobius. For the money we payed for it, it's an awesome boat. I don't know much about the Outback. But I am pretty sure the mobius has a stock ballast system. 5K seems like alot of difference between the two. Sit down with the dealer and list out the differences. There might be more than just hull.

The hull on my mobius is great, we weight it down pretty good and I've yet to see a curl in that wake. Very clean. Make sure you look at getting the wakeplate.

Pretty sure the Outback LS and the Mobius have the same hull, check the options 5k sounds like a big diff unless its a V-drive vs direct drive, I would get the Outback w/ 5K worth of options (perfect pass and the built in ballast to start). Bites for stormrider, I bought my Outback last year and we have 150 hours on it now with 0 problems.
we usually ride weekdays at Lewisville....jungles boat looks familiar..

I'm really starting to like the LSV as my next boat and hoping to get to ride behind one some day. I'd guess it's like any product is you sell enough someone if going to have problems which is why there are lemon laws for cars and money back guarantees.

I just got my 03 outback 2 weeks ago and I love it. The wake is great when the weight is added. For the 5k difference, I would go with the outback.

i have a mob V and love it i would go with ether. maybe the outback and spend the money on some weight or some sound system stuff.

moomba's hull is designed to be able to hold many people and still have a small wake for skiing, so when you add weight the wake doesnt get much biger, as where the mobius's hull is designed to add weight a wake gets bigger. I was in the same situation as you, mobius or outback, and my dad picked neither and get a SAN, he didnt want to spend more than 30,000 but when he test rode the nautique 206 limited he loved it, its worth the extra $$$! so even tho you said not to say it, SAN is the way to go...

Tyler, are you saying you got the 206 LTD and it is a SAN? Becuase the SAN is then 210 not the 206

I just picked up an LSV this weekend. I love the boat. I is a lot nices than the Kenner I was using. The only problem thus far is they couldn't put i nthe system untill today so no tunes for this past weekend.

jungle, I have a red outback w/ a Skylon and alot of gator grip on it, I either talked w/ u or someone in a boat just like yours the other day @ tower bay, we had to share some of the lettle good water over by the old party cove.

I just bought TODAY a 2003 Moomba Outback. This is my first boat. I think I'm going to love it. Once I get passed the break in stages.

Perhaps some of the biggest differences b/wn the 2 boats are the bells and whistles(are none on the Outback). The Hulls are EXACTLY the same, other than approx a 2 inch height difference. The 2003 Outback is an entirely different boat from past years. On my demo and the 1.5hr after, i knew i made a good choice.
