| I don't own a boat and I would love to at least have a winch to pull me. I know I can buy one for like two grand, or build one, which would probably be cheaper. The problem is I have no idea how to build one nor do I have any prior knowledge of motors, and I don't want to end up with all these expensive parts and have no idea what to do with them. Does anyone have any easy to follow instructions or should I just buy one? |

hey if you check out winchskating.com browse around there. there are a ton of people who have built them. And a few even include a parts list and some basic instructions.

you don't need to be a mechanic, just mechanically inclined. If you can solve mechanical problems and things like that, you should be able to construct a decent winch. you also need to be able to or know someone who can weld. _________________

| While its probably not a good idea... i did see a picture of a frame once that was all bolted together, no welds... |

Honestly man I have no idea.. i looked at so many winch pictures during my research phase it made my head spin. The thing i love about a newer invention is how everyone takes such different approaches to it. Lotsa good ideas out there.. no one design ive seen i would hands down call the best, thats for sure. |

| I didn't bolt mine entirely together, just the aluminum engine mount and the top support which i have now replaced and welded on. Most people bolt there engine plate down. |
