A few questions about riding doubles.

1) What difference in rope length is best? or do you ride the same?

- I would like to talk, but unsure if it is possible / desireable to cross.

2) It is for coaching, so I assume if you have 1 longer rope that, you put the newb on the longer rope to avoid him/her falling and having to clear a person or rope?

Any other tips?

Doubles is fun as hell. You don't really need 2 dif rope lengths - it's easy enough to just pull one shorter to cross if you want. There is no worrying about clearing a fallen rider/rope because you aren't riding behind other person.

Depends how you want to ride. If your both going big ts and hs its nice to have a 5-10 ft difference so you can shoot under each others ropes and dart around a little easier. I have ridden both even lengths and different lengths, both fun in their own ways.

i prefer to ride about 5 - 10 foot difference. depends on the other rider's level. also, have the better rider in the back.

The person on the short rope can slash and spray the other person if you want to horse around like my kids seem to enjoy the most.

I have ridden doubles for instructional purposes and to ride and goof around. If we are goofing around and riding I very subtly discourage frequent fallers from riding together - twice as many falls and it gets old circling back and getting both riders lined up with the handle every 300 or 400 yards.

We ride even and odd length ropes but you really do not need to cross if you are riding modelstly long lines.

Sort of Dpends. Me and my brother did doubles once, him on wakeskate me on board and we just splashed each other lol. we had about a foot or 2 rope difference so he would go under the rope to switch sides, we could jump or anything cuz we were too close, but if you had a longer distance apart you could do more stuff

Walk your hands up the rope, then just go under the other rope. We do it all the time skating doubles. It works a lot easier if the rope has a t-bar or the like.

Or just do huge airs over the other person like Jd Webb and Aaron Rathy do... it seems to be a pretty effective way of crossing each other. Maybe throw in a high five to your buddy for some style points.

Just curious.. using a flash (even on really bright days) will get rid of the darkness in the riders.... that way we can see your friend blushing when you're trying to kiss him!! haha jk... awesome pic though

Ok since we're on the topic of doubles...do you guys hook both ropes to the tower tow eye or put one on the ski pylon or tow (tube) hook? I was scared to put both on the tower but the guy I rode doubles with assured me that itd be ok so I reluctantly agreed to do it. Everything worked fine but still makes me a little nervous. Thats a lot of stress. How much can a tower take? 1? 2? 3+? (BTW its 05' Illusion X tower)

Both on the tower is perfect... thats a good question. just don't tie tubes to your tower.

Anyone ever ride doubles on rails? We did that this summer for a show our camp put on. I was in the back, about 20' behind the other rider - let me tell you, that 18" ollie was scary as hell when you've got the hole the rider in the front makes after their ollie Shocked - especially when you're coming in frontside Crazy Eyes Definitely fun and cool when you both have a good slide, but crazy intimidating too.

Riding doubles is a lot of fun. As long as your not jumping over anyone or anything, its fine to put them at the same length, just make sure you communicate with the other rider so you don't run into them or anything, my friends did that once. I've always put both ropes on the tower, works fine. Here's a pic of two of my friends riding doubles, the one rope is 5 feet shorter just in case!

my wakeboard coach and I ride doubles all the time. A five foot difference in rope length is plenty.
