Calling all UK wakeboarders out there. Have any of you bought a wakeboard from a US retailer and if so was it A. Cost effective B. Arrived safely and C. were you stinged by any import tax/hidden costs etc?

For those of you who have a happy experince buying from the US (or for that matter a bad experience) could you let me know which retailer it was through?

Thnx in advance

I bought from the US and shipped to Ireland, not the same but close as you're gonna get. Smile
I bought from buywake, I got a group of friends together and we bought a few k's worth, the guys at buywake cut us a deal cos we were buying so much, and we were able to save costs on shipping.
Buywake were great. Everything arrived safe and sound. The way they packed the items meant that items such as impact vest and handles and lines weren't counted by customs. Twisted Evil

We did get stung for import tax but it was less than the 21% that should have been charged more like 10-15% so I've no idea where they got the figures from. I'm not sure about UK law but in Ireland the tax is 21% of the minimum cost of the item to buy here, not the price you purchased it at. And seeing as we have very few sellers and most ppl don't know what a wakeboard is I really don't know where they got their figures from. So we got charged about 10 to 15% of the price we paid so we didn't challenege it Smile

Over all, although some of the sizing was a bit off on the life jackets, that's not buywakes fault though, I'd highly recommend buying online.

Ask around here for sizing, e.g. I recieved a large A10 Jet Pilot so I was worried it'sd be too big for me but it fits perfect and I'm 5'9" so it was just luck that I chose the wrong size jacket, I meant to order a medium. The CWB Zeus tend to run a bit on the small side, things like that are good to find out before you order.

As your dealer back in the UK, most of them will match the websites now.

I'm only after a wakeboard (143)

My research shows that buying the 'board' in the US is a dam site cheaper then over here (UK) but I'm getting ridiculous shipping prices (in the region of $100 - $150) and what with the import tax on top!

Maybe I'm just being a tight a***, I think I will just keep to eBay and wait for those season pro's to advertise there 2006 boards so they can raise cash for there new 2007

If it's just a board then it proably not worth it. We got 2 boards 3 set of bindings, 2 life vests rope handles dvds and a bunch of other stuff for 250 shipped.

There's a cool guy in northern Irland, I guess he'll ship to the UK, he sells Hyperlite gear, if you like I could pm you with some contact details.
