So, its been a crazy summer...my first time ever in a ski boat, on a lake or on a wake board and i have lived in Orlando for almost 15 yrs... What have i been missing out on!!!
I picked it up real quick after the whole day it took me to stand up, now I can edge better, and jump higher than most of my buddies that have been doing it for a while... The only thing i have a problem with is riding goofy, and going wake to wake on a consistent basis... I can jump about 4-6ft on all my attempts. i really focused on getting good pop, but putting distance and pop together for me is hard... when i go for w2w, i always absorb the pop with my legs as im edging thru the wake, and when i get pop i always get up there but land right before the wake or case it... It always seems like maybe 1 out 8 tries i clear the wake, by then im so tired im done for that set or i clear the wake landing on my ass..
I finally got injured trying to combine both, i had an old shoulder injury that is back to haunt me now, they say i need surgery but im trying to let it heal and start to focus on lifting weights again to get it back to shape.
I think if i had another 2 wks out there i could have cleared it on a consistent basis... someone told me to slow down and focus more on getting great pop clearing just one wake which was the best advice ever..
all in all, wakeboarding is great, i know ill never be a murray, or bonifay, but i think by next summer ill be doing w2w tricks |

WannabeSS, pfft, he said six feet. With a lot of people you take their max air and halve it, then you get what they're really getting.
wpmcl89, are you using your progressive edge? _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

Yea if you're getting 4-6 feet and not clearing the wake
Ok, im not trying to be a dick... just take about a 15 foot cut from the wake, then cut back in, start easy and progressively dig the edge in. When you get to the bottom of the way, stand up tall. You should get up there and make it across. If you're still not making it, speed up the boat. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/wannabess

thanks guys for the responses...and yes i know it sounds crazy so im not going to argue cause i cant watch my self grab the air...it was probably more like 4 ft off the wake but when youre riding it, it def. feels a lot higher. And i went to a school to grab some lessons (3 to be exact) and he (glen fletcher) was showing me how to get the most amount of air from hitting the wake...ive taken his lessons to heart, like i said before i get very very high off the wake by gettting a very sharp edge right b4 the wake itself and then springing up as i get to the sweet spot... MY mistake before was absorbing the wake too much with my legs.
When i used to cross the wake i would do it with speed and not height, like i was only getting maybe one foot off the water but i would cut out very far b4 edging in... Now i understand a little bit how to get the air, ive got to get the cojones again to cut out farther and edge in, but after my shoulder injury i need to pace myself a bit.... |
