|
|
Hey... i just took up wakeboarding this summer... been out around 4-5 times now using other people's boards.
I'm in the market for a used board now.
I'm thinking I can get a used HL Motive 140 for about 150 and possibly a used HL State 140 for about the same price.
I know the Motive is a board geared towards beginners, but I've read that the State gives you better and easier toeside edging?
Which board would be most ideal for a beginner that's just learning how to wake jump right now |

Don't let the lables trick you, the Motive was a pro-model a few years back. Nither board is going to help you with your HS or TS edge, only lot's of practice will help that. If at all possible I'd try to demo both boards to see what you're more comfortable with.
You should be able to advance just fine on either board. _________________ wakeboards

I've actually demoed the State already, but the local shop doesn't have the motive for demo... and the other local shop is L/F only...
the State was really stable in calm waters.. but gets a bit bouncy in harsher waters... probably shouldn't make a difference... but that's maybe that's cause i'm not heavy enough for a 140... (i'm like 145ish)
on wakeside.. it describes Motive as a board with a "flowing" feel... does that mean it's smoother? if not... what is that actually referring to?
thanks a lot |

140 is probably too big for a 145ish person. I'd look for something in the 135-137 range _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| I suggest calling Buywake.com. They can help you narrow down the correct board (s) with their expertise. Plus, everything is on sale. |

If you get a board that's too big for you it will be harder to control it. _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

| My brother has a 145 state and I love that board. Just a great shape, pop, tracking, etc. Solid board for just about any skill level. You could probably also ride the 135 at your weight. I think you'll be happy with either board though, I have some experience with the state and love it so I'll recommend that one for now. |

i have a motive and i learned on it and so did all my friends and i can do some advanced tricks so it doesnt hold you back at all.. the bindings suck mine already broke in two months but the board owns, very smooth riding and nice pop off the wake awesome board id get a 137 if i were you oh and it has nice molded fins for smoother landings and better tracking and there big enough so you dont need fins

angrybusinesmen, I can't help you on the motive vs. state question, but I wouldn't skimp on your board. make sure you get a good one that you will want to keep for a while, otherwise you'll just end up buying a new one soon. as far as tight vs. loose, a tight board tracks straighter on the water, while a loose board will slide side to side more. I personally like my board on the loose side, but tight boards are sometimes easier for beginners because it keeps the board from sliding out the side. _________________
