|
|
Yesterday I decided to go ahead and try a whirlybird since I've got my tantrums pretty dialed in. If I might say so myself, I think I got pretty close at the start, but I didnt follow through with the rotation and ended up landing blind instead. I know that I should keep looking over my back shoulder, keep my back arm tucked, and follow through in the lead arm motion, but are there any other tips you more experienced riders can give me for the next time I go out? Approach, trip, flip, landing?
Thanks, enjoy the awesomeness!!!

I can't help you there but it would have made a sick tantrum to blind.... _________________

The tantrum and whirly are IDENTICAL until your in the air. I am suspecting that you spun to blind a little on the take off which creates more line tension and less pop. Take it like a regular tantrum, after your first 90 degrees of flip rotation punch your lead arm across your face and stuff your face into the crook of your elbow.
good luck. _________________ Hold up....Wait a minute.... Let me put some pimpin in it! mmmmph |

mid rotation, you kept looking at the wake, which stopped the rest of the whirly from coming around.. youll get it if you keep your head going _________________ finally got my boat!!!

On your way down you opened up and that stopped your rotation. You did the tantrum but didn't commit all the way to the ole 3. Once you bring your hand across your upper body, leave it there until you finish the 3.
I definitely think you could easily land this soon. Not bad at all for a first attempt. |

Natman, When you do a tanny b like that it's called a crook. Andrew Adkison does them sometimes.
Good attempt, just commit to making the whole rotation. _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

yeah the first part looked pretty good, you just have to commit and bring the handle over your head which will bring you all the way around. you tripped yourself a little early though, make sure you ride all the way up the wake more than you think and you'll get more pop and it will be easier to spin the whirly
K-wood Kid, have u seen shane do one in higher learning? i think it looks 10 times better than adkison's but you crooks are badass |

I do them all the time on the tramp so I understand the mechanics (haven't tried it behind the boat yet).
You stop the rotation with your head and with your hand. If you notice you rotate around to blind and then turn your head in the opposite direction of the spin and Extend your arm, effective stopping your rotation. Keep your head turned and arm across your face. Keep in mind you should be looking for the water in front of you like you would a tantrum, not over your shoulder. Good first attempt and pretty close to landing a sweet tanny to blind.. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Thanks guys. I went out again today and tried a few more times. On my third attempt I actually spun the entire rotation and landed on my feet, but I didnt rotate fast enough while I was horizontal and the handle popped out of my hands on my decent because I had already done the tantrum part of it. So I just spun the last 180 straight up and down. I'm at work right now so Ill try to post the video later this evening... _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

| RufioSwashbuckle, Your so close bro! I bet a few more times and you will have it, nice riding too. I started trying whirly's the end of last season and on my 4th one in a row i caught my heal side edge when i was coming down and got cold knocked out. They are fun to throw though i love them. |

| i've tried about 3 or 4 whirlys and they were fairly rough on me. i can do them easily on the trampoline but it's a lot different on the water. in my next few sets i will probably work on em. good luck bro. |

| the problem with the attempts in that last video was you were cutting out too far into the flats and cutting in too aggressively, shorten how far you cut out and it will make the trick a lot easier to learn and you'll have more control in the air since you won't be going out into the flats |

you cut lil too hard, try it wake to wake. once your in the air, keep the handle as close as possible to your back shoulder and look over your back shoulder.
few more try and you'll be fine. _________________ if you don't fall, that's cause you don't try |
