I wish that the lake I am on would look like that sometimes. That looks sweet. Nice view too.

Yes, that's my boat. No I wasn't in Kamloops.

Kalamalka, Okanagan and Skaha.

There were quite a few Svfara's out on Okanagan Lake this year.

Doesn't all that colour come from the mineral content of the rocks from the surrounding mountains or something like that?

prestige, i too was on Kal this summer, i do beleive its a phanomonal lake, and its so warm, the colour is amazing, like its undescribable, almost like riding in the bahamas, what was the best was riding early there then heading through the pass to wood lake and stopping at Turtles, its one of my most favorite lakes

The OK is amazing for riding... Well, when you can hit it when no one else is on it! Calm and warm as hell in the summer... Half and half Wink Shuswap sucks now Sad

A quick google found:

Quote:
Kalamalka Lake (Lake of a Thousand Colours) was noted as one of the top 10 most beautiful lakes in the world by National Geographic."

Quote:
Kalamalka Lake is unique in that it is known as a “marl” lake. When the lake warms in the summer, dissolved limestone crystallizes giving the lake a distinctive blue and green hue. When the lake cools, the limestone crystals disappear.

It's a favourite in the Okanagan for boating in the summer, but last weekend we were the only boat on the lake. I boarded from the south end of Wood Lake to the North end of Kalamalka in one turn (with a brief stop to go through the canal).

I grew up in Oyama and ski'd this lake at 5 in the morning before going to school and then again after supper until dark. Was probably the greatest years of my life? Damn growing up is over rated! Shocked Living in Alberta now. Have discoverd some beautiful lakes in Northern Sask that keep us going back year after year!

NKCrider,
Just helping keep this thread ALIVE!!!
I could move from where I live and give up everything (except my boat) to live on that lake...actually not much of a sacrifice to give up everything now that I think about it. Confused

I would love to see a lake that calm... We go to Lake Lewisville in Texas... sometimes it rolls like the ocean!

Kal really isn't that calm, just like any other lake, you have to wake up early. Okanagan is a mess, pretty much an ocean. Cool pics though. Old thread.
