To the kind person who set off the fire alarm at 3:45am:
Thank you very much. I thoroughly enjoy being woken up, still half-drunk, to an overly-loud alarm emanating from the speaker by my front door at 3:45am. I especially like waiting outside in my pyjamas for the firefighters to show up. Oh the joys of waiting in the cold with a hundred or so other people on the streets of downtown Toronto.
Please though, the next time you feel the urge to drag us all out of bed - at least make it worth our time. Light your kitchen on fire or something... let us see some smoke & flames so we at least feel like there was a reason behind walking down flight upon flight of stairs.
----
To the firefighters who arrived at my building last night:
Although I appreciate what you do for a living, it would be nice if you would turn off our fire alarm - or tell the building manager all is safe - before leaving. I realize that 3 of the 4 trucks that arrived last night sped off quite quickly once you entered the building, but that doesn't mean you have to rush out as well.
Thanks to this, our alarm continued to sound for another 45 minutes after you left.
Have a wonderful day. |

Christ....I read this now...... I never thought of the ability to go into any Sorority House on campus in my college days, pull the fire alarm and have numerous co-eds stumbling out in all sorts of undress....
Could have made a event of it.... Set up lawn chairs, bring coolers.......
Yea Kyle, that was her point...... |

| If you can tell there isn't a fire, why bother going outside at all. Pull a pillow over your head. |

I don't know about elsewhere, but in the state of Oregon, not exiting a building when the fire alarm sounds is against the law (ridiculous law or not, it's the law) Here at Portland State, they have had such poor compliance with this law, the fire dept. has actually started checking rooms when an alarm is sounding and citing those that they find not complying. _________________ Get Frugally Green!

Tyler T, same here. when a third alarm was pulled in the same nite (as i mentioned earlier), nobody left. so basically the firemen went room by room opening up doors and issuing citations for not leaving. thankfully by the 6th floor, they were totally over writing tickets, and they just told us to get down stairs asap. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

Lock your door and go to sleep under blankets in your closet or under your bed., |

I don't think it's the law here - if it is, I haven't heard of it... But either way, in my building there's would be no way of telling if it's a real fire or not - I don't usually leave until I see other people leaving though, I try to stick it out as long as I can...
When I used to live in dorms, the alarms got pulled all the time, so my friends and I stopped going out for all of them - we only got in trouble a few times, but that's alright! |
