First let me say great site. It's helped me a lot. I've searched and can't find the answer to my question.
Here's my problem. I have a 17'6" Larson Citation 130hp, Alpha 1 drive. With a 19p prop. I have been playing with weight and now have a decent wake. The only problem is to make the wake clean and not washed out I have to trim up a bit and travel at about 28mph. Yeah 28mph doesn't feel too good when I catch an edge. So I went to my boat dealer today and he said I needed to change out my prop to a 17 or maybe a 15. So if I'm understanding him correctly, the prop will have more thrust at a lower speed thus cleaning up my wake at a lower speed? Is this correct? If someone could explain this or have any ideas to help, I'm all ears. Thanks

The dealer is ignorant... The only reason to change the prop would be if you were having trouble coming out of the hole. On the Inboard/outboards I have been behind have all required the motor to be trimmed up a good amount. Weight placement could also be an issue. How are you weighting the boat? That thrust crap is the biggest bs I have heard in a while.

Glad to hear I'm not crazy, because it didn't make too much sense to me.
It may sound a bit getto but I have concrete filled pipes in the ski locker, and some in the bow storage. And my rear coolers are always filled full with drinks and ice. Would it help if I ditched the coolers and added more weight to the rear?

No more weight in the back on an I/O. You probably need more weight up front if your wake is washed out. Are you sure the 28 mph is accurate? IO speedos are notoriously shitty.

That lower pitch prop wouldn't be a bad idea though....it's easier to hold speed as well as a better hole shot. It's not going to do anything for your wake though.

I can't be positive on the speed other than what the gauge is reading. But I used to slalom ski when I was younger, and I am going fast enough to be pulled on a slalom, that much I can tell. I'll play with the weight placement more tomorrow, hopefully that will help. Thanks

In an I/O you need most of the weight in the nose, I am betting that is your problem. The prop is fine, it seems the number of blades is more important than the pitch. Especially if it pulls you up fine and stays on plane.

Dirtysparks is right about the speedo, the tube type is a joke. They are off, and not consistently off by the same amount. If you happen to have a handheld GPS you can try to get an actual speed reading.
