do bigger guys ride wakeskates?

i weigh 200+ and just started wakeskating Shocked ...problem is i seem to have trouble getting up... once i do i'm fine.. i've only been skating twice and got up about 3-4 times(out of 8-10 attempts) each session...i can't do much yet besides edge out good hs and ts and switch hs and ts, cross the wake, and surface 180s and surface 360s... i got a small ollie the last time out... but aside from the obvious(lose some pounds) Embarassed , is there anything i should be doing to get up every time?

thanks for any and all input....

I'm 5'11" and weigh about 265. I feel your pain brother. I've been wakeskating about 5 years now. My old wakeskate was just an old wakeboard with astrodeck on top of it, which I never had an issue with deepwater starts. I then moved to a liquid force wud skate and the first time I took it out I felt like an idiot cause it took me like 5 or 6 tries to get out of the water. I've since overcome that problem. The trick I use is to keep the board underneath the water till the boat starts pulling. And I try to keep it parallel to the waters surface. I get up every time now effortlessly. Or you can dockstart, that's the easiest way to go. If you don't have a dock you can try sitting on the edge of a tube that is anchored. I've had some people who can't seem to be able to grasp the concept of a deepwater start so I usually just bust out the ol tube. Good luck!

thanks for the tip bro... but since i first started this thread, i've actually gotten up every time... my problem was the "driver"...once we got those issues ironed out, its been pretty easy getting up... i so dig wakeskating...i've just gotta start progressing... i've got surface spins pretty much dialed, at least up to 540s...i'm getting pretty comfortable riding blind... and my ollies just started looking better... now i'm working on ollie 180s and shuvs... got any tips on those? Laughing

What was the problem with the driver? I am 6'2 250 and could not get up.
Are the starts the same as on a wakeboard or is there another technique.

after many attempts and struggles I used a modified version of a deep water start and couldn't believe how easily I came out of the water.
I guess the extra inch my arms stretched from all the previous attempts is a bonus too! Very Happy

i would recomend getting a impulse 43" wide, its wider than the regulur 43" so it should be more comfortable to ride
