So were either going to let the dealer sell our boat for us or trade in. Im not exactly seeing the advantages to letting them sell it if were buying a new 07 from them (malibu).

I'd sell it private if you're willing. I just sold mine for almost double what our marina told me it was worth, or their 'suggested' selling price.

When you trade you loose some of the ability to negotiate by giving the dealer more opportunity to alter prices....ie. the dealer gives you a great deal on the trade but you pay full retail, or gives you what you think is a great deal on price, but gives you below market value on your current rig. At any rate is is more difficult for you to negotiate when you bring more variables into the deal.

Having said that, I think selling boats are a bigger hassle to sell privately than other things. Driving someone over to lake test it, waiting for someone to get a loan.... If you do not mind the hassle and have the time then sell it privately you are probably better off financially.

If they broker the sale, make SURE they run it through their dealership so you can take advantage of the sales tax savings - assuming they sell it before you take posession of the 07.

There should be a very noticable difference in the numbers that your dealer will give you via brokered boat and trade in. It was over 5K on my last boat.
