|
|
2 weeks ago, I busted my front knee. I landed onto the second wake, for some reason, my knee did not bend when I landed, and it gave a sharp snap, & pain runs through my leg. Doctor asked me to rest 3 weeks, nothing major and gave me some explanation I cant recall. Now when I straightened my knee, i can feel a click on the knee cap with my hand. Seeing doc again tomorrow.
Ladies, has this happened to anyone and does any one have any other wakeboarding injuries & recoveries to share? |

| oh yeah...i got a few for u!! lol. I tore a ligament in my knee last week and got a concussion. Perviously i have had two other concussions and a cracked rib all from wakeboarding....maybe im just retarted or accident prone but i have been hurt quite a few times. I put away the wakeboard for the rest of the season due to doctors orders. LOL. I wish u a speedy recovery!!! |

Wake Princess: My goodness, I thought I was bad. Sorry to hear about that. It sucks isnt it when the weather is so beautifully warm and clear out, and we cant wakeboard, let alone other sports.
What were you doing when you got your ligament pulled, and those ribs cracked?
To minimise injuries, we should try to :
1 Warm up before riding or big jumps, on land and on water
2. dont ride or stop when tired (I hurt myself on my last run),
3. spot landings to prepare body and mind for softer landings.
4. dont push too hard, improve with small progressions. Work within limits.
I will do more research on minimising injuries to share with everyone.
Take care, speedy recovery to us. |

getting hurt durring mid season is always a downer...
but if theres one thing i can tell u from years of experience, let it rest!
the worst thing to do is go out on it to early, and end up hurting yourself more then u were already hurt!
i know it sucks to have to wait, but 3 weeks of waiting is a lot better then never being able to ride again! |

Last year I was out with Dave Briscoe and I got a tibial plateua fracture (aka i fractured the top of my tibia right where my knee is) and I continued wakeboarding on it because he didn't believe me that I was hurt. Went to the doctor the next day and was diagnosed, which caused me to start my freshmen year of college last year on crutches.
Other than that, I've dislocated my other knee twice while boarding.... |

My knee has been more than a month and I've been to Physiotherapy, I thought I was OK. Last week, I went riding switch. Then I got bold and went regular, and went for a medium 1 wake jump, my knee couldnt handle the impact of the water.
I have swtiched doctors. I'm trying these Chinese herbal healing method. They say its faster. I was told I needed to wait 1 month more, than I should be wearing a knee brace!!
Summer is almost over, but I still want to ride. I will just ride around switched and promise myself not to JUMP. |

| shazie - i know its tough to wakeboard after a knee injury. for me, it was easier to wakeskate when my knee was hurting, and still healing. that way, you don't have to worry about getting in and out of the bindings, which for me, was one of the most painful parts.... |

Women are more predisposed to non direct impact knee injuries than men due to the increased Q angle.
Laymans terms: women are made with wider hips so the angle at the knee is increased, therefore increasing the stresses the knee must absorb. Stretching, strengtening and warm up are the keys to injury prevention as well as proper form to reduce the impact.
Take your time coming back. If you experience the same impact/stresses without being fully healed the damage can be far worse due to residual weakness. I know being sidelined sucks but a little time lost is beer (wow that was a freudian slip) Better than a permanent injury/pain.
I finally am able to get a little air and my knees let me know about it the next day when my wife and I were out running.

Thanks for the encouragement. But I'm still sooo down. Got lots of work & pressure, and the only exercise/sport I do to get things off my head is wakeboarding (besides screaming at my kids). And with my stupid knee still weak, I'm dying over here.
Recently spent big bucks on an MRI - to scan my knee. I didnt know it was that costly until I was in the scanning room. My knee turned out OK, but I will need to invest on a knee brace when Im healed ... geeze, another expensive investment. This is really not my year. Sob Sob Sob. Just have to work harder for my money.
Hope I'm not boring anyone, just needed a place to vent. Sob Sob Sob. |

hope you all recover soon!
This season I've twisted my ankle twice, got a black eye, a concussion, did something to my back (kinda on my spine itself, still haven't gotten it checked out as it hardly bothers me anymore), and am now having nerve problems in my left hand - although this may not be from riding, I have no clue how it happened. |

hey guys - hope everyone recovers soon too...so far this season, I've managed to twist my ankle twice, got hit on the nose with the rope handle and sported two black eyes - plus I'm sure my nose is chipped from that same incident cos it hurts like hell still and still feels weird , urm, oh yeah, got a burst eardrum, concussion...still having balance problems and broke a finger last week - still have no idea how, but god it hurts!
Now I've idiotically got myself into training to do a 10 mile mountain style run in a months time - just so that I can keep my fitness up for a week's Cabwake holiday in November (yea - so excited! ) ...but it's killing my knees! Oh to be younger...a good ten years would be nice!!! |
