V-drives

After quite some time of listening and reading about how great v-drives are for wakeboarding, I am now looking for an answer to the big question: why?

The quick answer is it puts more weight in the back for a bigger wake, but this is clearly not right as anyone with knowlege of wakeboats will tell you that the best distribution is 60% back and 40% front. The 60/40 split is almost ideally suited to a driect drive boat (and for that matter not an i/o with the motor right at the back).

So... why are v-drives better?

If you can not figure it out from the posts, why don't you try going out riding for the day on a direct drive and then another day on a vdrive. Then you can make your OWN decisions!

abrider, 60-40 is a starting place. It depends on the boat.

The best thing about v-drives are the storage. You can hide a lot more weight in a V-drive than in a d-drive without having to step over sacks. I like the seating configuration a lot better also. In a d-drive the people in the back seat can't hear the people up front and they can get splashed with water a lot easier.

It really boils down to the fact that most people would rather not have a noisy vinyl hump in the middle of their boat.

To each their own, but I always thought the direct drives had much more space than a similiar lenght i/o (or v-drive). People and equipment are more spread out.

A vdrive/Drive also ahs more torqe and power for pullind, less moving parts, more consistent speed, firmer wake due to less water stired up my prop VS our drive. swim platform si also a major plus.
