For a first ski/wakeboard/family boat, am I going to be happy with a Moomba Outback, 21 foot direct drive. looking at used in the 2000-2002 year range. My family loves to ski. I love the wakeboard and kneeboard. I am a beginener/intermediate wakeboarder and have been kneeboarding for a while behind a couple different I/O's. What do you think?
By the way, I did read the sticky post at the top of this forum. I was just looking for pros and cons of the Moomba. |

Biglouie, I am also looking into the Moombas. There are of a couple of recent threads in the Boat General Discussion board that address them. You can also use the search function to search for "Moomba" or "Outback".
Since one of the things I want to do with my boat is wakesurf, I'm leaning toward the V-drive. That is the only Moomba with Gravity III ballast system (2 rear, 1 front). A direct drive would probably be okay with fat sacs. |

biglouie, I think I heard somewhere that there are certain years for moomba that arent the greatest hulls for wakeboarding and I think that the years that you are talking about are the ones but Im not sure. There are plenty of other brands of boats out there that are better for wakeboarding but they might be 2-3 years older than what you have specified in the same price range. Also if you do decide to go with the moomba outback then you should definitely go for the LS model, Im pretty sure it is the same hull as the Mobius which is better for wakeboarding and the standard outback has a very small wake. Im sure some people here will disagree with me but that is what I have found out after a couple years of research. _________________ "What counts is not necessarily the size of the the dog in the fight. | For the money, I think the Moomba is a tremendous value. Its not a top tier luxury boat but it serves its purpose well and does not depreciate like some of the more expensive boats. |

| Moomba was my first wake boat, and I learned a ton behind that beast. Bittersweet memories! |

Ziess, which more expensive boats depreciate more than a moomba? _________________ "What counts is not necessarily the size of the the dog in the fight. Its the size of the fight in the dog." - Gen. George S. Patton |

I have 1997 and we have a great time in/behind it. Wakesurfing, wakeboarding whatever. It has a nice flat wake for skiing at 30+.
