This week I finally mastered ollie 180, but only in the wake. Whenever I try it out in the flats, I wipe out. The falls aren't always the same; sometimes faceplants, sometimes ass-first. I'm not sure why it's harder - it seems to me like it should be pretty much the same thing in our out. It does feel like I'm not getting the board all the way around.
The only guess I have is that I'm not getting enough air on the ollie in the flats. It feels like I get a little more "spring" off the turbulent, air-filled water in the wake, and the board is riding a little higher to start with.
Any thoughts? |

If would try it heelside first, cut out to gain speed and make the water a little harder. Should actually be a little easier than sitting in the wake. I finally just got these down myself a couple weeks ago. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

As Rhawn said, it should be easier to Ollie in the flats because the water is "harder" giving your board more to ride up and over. Here's how I do Ollie 180's:
Edge outside of the wake
Come off edge
When you come off edge you will feel a little slack in the line
Ollie when you feel this slack
Don't start rotating the board until you are done with the Ollie
Land switch and ride off into the sunset
The key is to Ollie when you have slack so you don't have any force on the line pulling you off balance. The farther you edge out, the longer you will have slack in your line.
Hope it helps. _________________ Whoever coined the term "Near Beer" was a very poor judge of distance... |

Pump your board into the water befor you ollie and then when you do ollie, the water that you just pumped down catapults you higher into the air giveing you more time to 180 your board.
Hope this helps dude _________________ When your in the air its feels as if your the only person on the planet.

| practice surface 180s first then once you get the hang of those cut out as far as you can on your h/s edge and once there is a little slack in the rope lean back and lift the board up and spin |
