OK, I am finally gonna take the plunge and take some lessons to get started. I am going to NC over Labor Day weekend and taking the first class and another extended water lesson. Should I just try to get on the trainer kite as much as possible till then? What else will I need?

Jason call me next time you go out. You seem to be the goto man on here. Wink

If no wind is coming soon, can I borrow your trainer for awhile?

Yeah, basically, you will be charged for the time, so the more you can pick up before you go, the quicker you get to the water, saving you money. Spend your time with him picking up the important stuff rather than having him turn you loose with a trainer for half the time.

Nothing forcasted for the near future, but I will let you know. And yes you are welcome to borrow my trainer anytime.

does it not blow in corpus or spi this time of year? I was thinking of taking a trip down there for spring break to get a week of good riding in before next summer, and heard spring is one of the best seasons in that area.

Corpus and SPI blows pretty much year round every day, except for summer, where you may only get 1 or maybe 2 days a week in spurts. I was going to go this weekend, but they had no forecast for wind. Last weekend the guys who went down said they were on 10m all 3 days, so its hit and miss.

If all youre going for is riding, then I would hit SPI. Bluish water and great conditions. However, that place is a mad house on Spring Break. Other than that, its a ghost town with nothing to do but kiteboard. But, the riding there is epic for flat waters and waves.

Corpus has alot more going on, but the riding areas arent quite as nice. Dont get me wrong, the riding is awesome, but some places smell bad, and its all brown water. Much more non-kite stuff to do and much better resturants and nightlife.

what is SPI? By the way I just completed my begginer course in NC. The wind sucks right after Ernesto though. Rolling Eyes

Thinking about getting into kiting eh gene? I've thought about it a lot and looked to take lessons in Hawaii but still haven't. I might work on that trainer after you.

Yep took the begginer class and it was much easier than I thought. The thing that sucks is that there was not enough wind to learn to tack back upwind. Mad I did learn to relaunch the kite in the water though and with a little parctice I am sure that Jason will give me some education. Wink

Yeah, unfortunately it isnt something you can casually get into like with wakeboarding. Ya kind of have to decide you really want to and go do it til you are good at it. Then you can decide if its something you want to continue to do. Pick up some used gear, and take a lesson (preferred easier way, quick learning) or go out and take your lumps with us (slow learning, slightly risky, but really cheap...thats what I did). Either way, it is fun to be on the water. After you have gotten proficient and really riding well, then decide if you want to do it anymore. If not, you can sell your gear for what you bought it and be done. Kiteboarding is like learning to drive that first stick. At first you can get it going, but its jerky, and not pretty. It can be frustrating, like learning to wakeboard with someone who cant drive. After a while you dont even think about the"driving" part, and its a much more enjoyable experience. Once you get your movement smooth, then it becomes just like wakeboarding, and you can challenge yourself with tricks you know from wakeboarding, and some new things you cant do behind a boat.

Fall is around the corner, and we will be getting some wind!
