ok so if i read this thread my answer would be what ever feels best, but i'm a little confused.
i've been wakeboarding 2 times. the first time i was riding a 132 which is way too small for my 235# ass. needless to say i did not get up. the second time i rented a 143 board and got up on my 3rd try. now i've been surfing for about 15 years, snowboarding for 10 and skating for 18 or so...
so i knew as soon as i got up i would be able to ride just fine. i dont' have the best controll but i won't crash just riding, so on my 2nd time getting up i went outside the wake on my backside? (boat was at my back) and when i cut towards the boat on my HS edge i faceplanted right into the wake... so next time i went out frontside, this felt much better and i cut in towards the wake poped off the top got about 2.5ft in the air the rope pulled me over and i landed on my back. now my question is
when you are out side the wake facing the boat are you TS or HS?
(i know when you are out there you are on your HS edge but i'm wondering if would be HS or TS cause when you cut in you're on your TS edge)
and should i be trying to jump facing the boat or facing away from the boat?
i know the second answer is gonna be what ever feels best, but all the videos of new riders on here they are all jumping facing the boat.
jesus i feel like a total noob.
anyway feel free to flame if you want i know it is fun.
oh and i know why when i jumped i tilted backwards... the handle was not at my waist. next time i go i will correct that. |

| you should be more comfortable hitting the wake when your cutting out and your back is facing the boat and when you cut in your heels should be facing the wake keep trying that cause thats the most comfortable way to jump |

so if my back is towards the boat when i jump was it HS or TS i would guess HS right?
but you jump off your TS edge when your back is facing the boat.
i'll try jumping facing the boat next time seems like it would be easier to keep the handle down _________________

no dawg, if you are cutting towards the wake you go by if your heel or toe is FARTHEST from the boat. when you are riding regular and not goofy, and you are outside the wake to your right you cut in on your heelside edge, so your heels are farther from the boat than your toes, when you said that you faceplanted into the wake it sounds like you simply turned your board, to obtain a succesful heelside edge, you must bend your knees and then lean away from the boat, this creates line tension, which generates pop.
make sure that your board is not completely perpendicular to the wake, if your board is perpendicular your fins will catch and face plant.
also make sure to straighten your legs when the nose of your board is near the tip of the wake, timing has alot to do with your pop. |
