I'm getting conflicting advice and would appreciate any help anyone could give me in clearing up my confusion.

My wake to wake jumping is terrible. I have no problem with speed, but I tend to slingshot from one wake to the other and am not getting good (any) height. Quite often this results in me catching a tip in the backside wake and the inevitable whiplash faceplant ensues. ('Embarassed')

I think this is because I'm not doing a good enough job of keeping my legs straight and not keeping the handle tight enough to my hips. (Based on reading a bunch of these posts--props to all the vets for helping out us newbies!)

So that's what my reading sez....

My riding buddies are all telling me instead that my problem is that I should be "pushing down" hard at the bottom of the wake like on a skateboard ramp or swinging on a swingset and that I shouldn't try to let the board do the work for me (which I kind of feel like it should, hydrodynamically speaking)...

Is "pushing down" just a given in getting height or am I getting two very different sets of advice?

HELP!

Thanks very much for any clarification you may provide.

I dunno about pushing down. But when you cut in hard to the wake lean back and sit, and when you get to the wake stand up tall. Don't jump, just stand up

if you slingshot, you are edging too hard and fast for your ability level... dont go out as far, and dont try to come in as fast, just try to keep the line tension AT THE GREATEST right at the top of the wake... kind of begin to drift in, then gradually edge harder, and give a little extra edge at the trough... if you exagerate this edge in the trough it will FORCE you to stay on edge the whole way up the wake so you learn how it is supposed to feel.. after you get a feel for it you can ease things up so you can get consistant and learn "if i want to do a wake to wake jump i have to edge this hard" and "i want to take my indy grab out in the flats i have to edge this hard" and eventually "i want to pop straight up on my 3, so i have to edge this hard and pop right here on the wake"

hope that helps

on your edge sit like your sitting down into a chair, and when you get to the bottom of the wake imagine yourself jumping up out of a chair(stand tall)...

It sounds like you are cutting in way too hard, also work on your timing for when you pop off the wake, listen to wtbamoomba.

Then you should keep your comments to yourself. How does your cable experience help this kid jump a wake better?

i don't know about pumping or anything else, but i've been riding with a few kids that are pretty damn good and i increased my wake to wake dramatically by edging all the way thru the wake when i jump. this launched me so much farther and kept good height. before, i would let up right at the crest - got good height, but wasn't clearing the wake. i keep my knees slightly bent, but not sitting when edging in - leaning back of coarse

because cable to boat crossovers are probably the best riders i have ever seen... prime example, jimmy lariche
