I cant get myself to get in the correct rotation for a progressive back roll, so was told to try the mexiroll.
The same thing happens everytime, I roll over onto the rope
Any thoughts?

wow man.. first off try and wait for a little better water so you can time the pop more... also it sounds weird, but make sure you are getting the full pop before you initiate the spin.. ive never even tried mexi before, but those are the key points to doing the regular backroll... dont leave the wake too early

Ok,
You are very close, but what the video show is that you throw your entire body to do the trick... For the backroll it is the wake (ok) and the rope (not ok) who kick you into the roll. You just may initiate the rotation with you head and the line tension make you rotate. In your case there is not enough line tension.
The beginning of your edge is ok, but 2 meters before the wake add a little bit of edge and hit the wake with the board doing a 90° angle with the wake (on the video is around 75°). Then, do the same as you do on the video and you'll go to roll faster and higher (because of more line tension and more speed).

Laurent,
Your advice seems to be more for the progressive back roll, vs the mexican.
where you roll more forward than sideways?
What am I missing?

seriously, just pop before you throw it, you try and do the trick too fast and you dont get the pop you need

You are right, for the progressive you add more edge approaching the wake.
But.
Anyway, backroll (progressive or mexican) is a matter of pop (being tall at the wake), line tension (the more you have , the faster you turn), and head and shoulder (by opening you do a progressive, by throwing forward you do a mexican).
Try to add more tension on your rope and you'll turn faster with your upper body forward and your legs backward
(sorry for my english, I'm from France)

1.) find better water to ride in.

2.) pop before you throw it.

Thanks for all the advice.
That was the last run and the water was all churned up, usually much better.
Anyway the resulting roll is typical.
I get it, wait for the pop, keep up the line tension

Can anyone tha is doing mexirolls tell me about the head movement, direction, amt?

Your head is doing the right thing for a mexi-roll. If you are looking to do a straight rail over rail flip, you could drop your back hand put it down like you are reaching for an indy off the top of the wake.
Keep the handle at your lead hip. Do not let it float during the roll, because it will give a vicious yank 3/4 through your rotation and you may loose it. If you keep it down and closer to your body, it will make the roll much easier to land.

When it comes to landing them, look for the shoreline. The board is blocking your view of the water, so if you wait to spot the wake, it will likely be too late.
