Lakers are out, and yes, this was started before the game was actually over, but technically it was over before it began cuz they have been sucking majorly. Oh well, now i can just root for the ducks and hope a southland team gets to some kind of championship this year. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

The Lakers suck, period? What have you been smoking? Why do you guys hate them so much? 'Cause they won 3 straight?
Oh well, they couldn't kept winning forever. I'm willing to bet they'll come back stronger next year (w/ a power forward) and win it all again.
Thanks for a great season, Lakers! _________________ my demo reel

The lakers have needed a power forward ever since AC green left. Every year they say they're gonna ge ta decent power forward, and every year they never do. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

I'm sick of seeing the Lakers. With exception of Shaq and Kobe, I find them to be a very boring team to watch. I want to see a new champion this year. I'm rooting for the Spurs right now. |

Yes, they've said that in recent years, but there are power forwards available next year, in Horace Grant, who was quoted in a Bay Area newspaper as wanting to play for the Lakers, and Karl Malone, telling a Utah paper that L.A. is one of the teams he's interested in. Yeah, these guys are old, but they can still play. Anyone, other than Samaki, please! The Lakers need to make some big moves, and after this loss, I think they will. _________________ my demo reel

So because they're confident and think they can win, that means they suck? Nice logic. _________________ my demo reel

Amen to that. Bring a championship back to LA and madsen is what basketball is all about. Hustling up the court, even though he knows that he probably wont get the ball. Hes a real player. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

| It isnt that the Lakers are cocky, because there is a big difference between being cocky and confident. I just dont like how they handle themselves on the court and their style of play. I think if you want to watch real basketball then watch a Jazz game. I know they are out but they play the game how it was supposed to be played, they are just missing someone to compliment malone down low, Ostertag doesnt cut it. The lakers just seem like they are too good to do the grinding stuff in basketball, but madsen is the exception. |

| Madsen is only fun to watch for a little while, until you realize that he really is one of the worst players in the league and has few skills. I root for him too, but it's just because I can't believe he's even been around this long. |

| The reason everyone hates the Lakers is all about class. Everyone likes a classy champion. Michael was a classy champion, Shaq is not. Shaq calls people names in the media like he was in 4th grade! No class at all. Kobe acts like he can win every game they play if he felt like winning that day. Remember when he had his high point game this year? When asked what happened, he told the public that Phil asked him to score more and take over, so he did. Like all Phil had to do was say "win this" and he says "ok, I will" and all he needs is the nod from Phil to win. Remember when Micheal scored 63? When asked what happened he humbly said he was fortunate to get into one of those rare zones and that nobody shoots that well. That is class. When they play its isnt about basketball, its about making the highlight reel. That may make them money, and it may sell out the stadium, but it doesnt win championships against solid basketball teams. The Lakers have done well for 2 reasons, and that is they have 2 atheletes who can win despite poor basketball, and free agency has kept solid teams from staying together long enough to really be productive and they have taken advantage of that weakness in the league in general. |

Jason, Michael was also told to get the rest of the team more involved. Remember, Michael even played point for a while. So now, it's Kobe's turn. He was asked to take more shots. Sure, he thinks he can win it for the Lakers, night in and night out. Michael was the same way. He thought he could single handedly tear the opposition apart. And yeah, he was criticized, just like, if not more than Kobe has been.
Michael has also been quoted as saying he could beat anyone. Is that cockiness? Sure. But it's okay for Michael to be cocky, and it's not for Kobe to be? That's ridiculous. These are professional athletes. They think they can beat anyone and everyone. Look at Ruben Patterson, the self proclaimed "Kobe stopper". No one talked about him being cocky.
As for Shaq, it's been an ongoing thing between he and the Kings for the past, what, 4 years? It's all in fun, bro, that's just the type of person Shaq is.
"When they play, is about making the highlight reel."
Do you know the guys personally? Didn't think so.
"The Lakers have done well for 2 reasons, and that is they have 2 atheletes who can win despite poor basketball,"
Wrong again. You don't win 3 championships in a row w/o good coaching, all star players, and teamwork. Just ask Pippen. _________________ my demo reel

Okay, Im not an expert here, but to liken Kobe to Michael in terms of playing ability is a farce...And Michael, while confident, never came across as being cocky to me. I'm sorry, but Kobe is nowhere near as good as Michael was, and, if Jordan said that, Im sure he wasnt as young as Kobe is when he said it.... _________________ And if @$$holes could fly, this place would be busier than O'Hare |

I didnt say Micheal wasnt as cocky or even more than Kobe, and apparently wasnt that great of a guy off the court, but in dealing with the media he kept everything classy. Kobe doesnt seem to be concerned with curbing his arrogance to the media.
THAT is why so many hate the Lakers, which was the question you asked.
Also I might add, that an argument can be made that any one of 5 players could be the best player in the league. When Mike was in his prime, there was no question who was the best. That might have given Mike a little slack when he spouted off(which was rare).
Ive been around alot a basketball and I have run around with one of them enough to know how they play. And, from a money standpoint its not a bad idea.

You better believe I used the word teamwork with a straight face. Do you honestly believe the Lakers would have won 3 straight with just Kobe and Shaq doing the work? What about defense? 3 pointers? Rebounds? Last I checked, Shaq and Kobe didn't get all the numbers. They did produce a lot of the numbers, or even most of 'em, but not all. Fisher, with his 3s, taking of charges, making the extra pass. Fox, with his good defense and making the open shot. Horry...would you leave this guy open, even though he was slumping? Madsen, you will never get more effort than what you will get from him. Shaw, like Horry, would you leave him open behind the arc? Devean, another Madsen (effort), but with a lot more skills. The Lakers, a 2-man team? You're obviously biased towards one team, and that one team not being the Lakers.
You've been around a lot of basketball, you say? Then you know what it takes to win. Though the Lakers didn't have what it took to win this year, they obviously did the last 3 years. And what it took was teamwork. If you think all it took was 2 players, talk to Stockton and Malone. _________________ my demo reel

Jeremy, none of us are experts here. But for you to say Jordan never came off as cocky, well, that just tells me you didn't watch him, nor his interviews enough. Is it wrong to be cocky? Hell no! If I had the skills that Jordan had and Kobe has, hell, I'd be running up and down the court, and taking everyone on. It's just the nature of the game.
I used to play ball all the time. For a while, I got to the point where I could beat anyone off the dribble and take it to the hole, amongst the trees. I could go up, hang, fake one hand, switch to the next, then shoot and make it. Was I cocky? Sure. I had the skills to back it up. And I wasn't even getting paid!
You're right, Kobe isn't as good as Michael was. I don't think anyone said he was. But Kobe can get in grooves that is comparable to the grooves the Michael got in.
And when Michael made the comment of being able to beat anyone and everyone, he was older when he said it than Kobe is now. _________________ my demo reel

yeah, I see what you're saying Joe, although I just think Kobe comes across as being a punk sometimes and I really don't think he has been around long enough to act as though he owns the league. I do happen to agree with you about the lakers teamwork though, and because of this, I hasten to add that I doubt Kobe would be seen as as good a player as he is seen as being had he been in another team..the clippers for example _________________ And if @$$holes could fly, this place would be busier than O'Hare |

Jeremy, believe it or not, Kobe's been in the league for 7 years now.

having extra guys on the floor does not teamwork make. Yes every one of those guys are great players, heck, they are in the NBA! However, all they do is pick up junk. Maybe that is their roll, but thats not teamwork. You dont see Kobe working to get Horry off. You dont see Shaq making the extra effort to free guys up on the baseline. Shaq makes shots for himself, and Kobe makes shots for himself. There is no teamwork involved. The other guys are there to bail the big two out. Sure they make some shots, they are freakin pros!
Stockton and Malone!! HAHA!! You are comparing to guys who were average atheletes on an average team full of more average atheletes to two of the biggest atheletes the game has ever seen. Only thing Stockton and Malone had was heart and they rode that to the playoffs constantly. If stockton and Malone were half the atheletes that Kobe and Shaq are, they would have a couple of rings to show for it.
I agree that the Lakers have put the best game on the floor for three years, but it isnt because of teamwork.
In these days of free agency, the team who can put the most 1 on 1 players on the court will win. Shaq, best 1 on 1 center in the league. Kobe, best 1 on 1 guard in the league. However as more teams try to keep players long term, the teams will become greater than just the sum of their parts and the Laker type teams will not fair as well. _________________ TONA

| If you take Kobe and Shaq and put them on any team in the NBA i think you can almost garuntee making the playoffs. Now take any team in the nba, leave them with only their star players and then add in the lakers supporting cast and i doubt they'd do so well. The Lakers success is based on Kobe and Shaq regardless of who is playing around them. The Lakers have superstars in two spots at center and guard, where as most teams only have 1. The spurs have Duncan and Robinson but they both play down low so it is easier to stop. You can see how long it took for them to be able to create a system where the 2 guys in the post cannot be stopped. |

| Joe, re-read. I didnt say average players, I said average atheletes. Stockton was not the biggest, strongest, fastest, or a leaper. Malone was not either, though a legit argument can be made for strongest, there were other who were right there. Stockton and Malone are a legendary duo. But they did it with heart and brains, not athletic ability. |

OK hold the phone... I dislike the Lakers as much as the next guy but I'm not going to make things up about them or talk trash on what they have done as a team. REMEMBER I'm FROM SACRAMENTO...
It was proven this season that the Lakers needed teamwork from the supporting cast in order to win titles. Shaq and Kobe were constants in the past 4 seasons. Production from Fox (injured), Horry (2 for 40 in this series), George (sprained ankle), and Fisher is critical to the Lakers winning titles. The supporting Cast virtually disappeared this year. Horry had a horrible shooting slump in the playoffs. Last year he was the man with the stroke that devestated my team. No Haters here. I respect what the team has done but they need to make some trades for a more athletic supporting cast.
My boys pulled it of last night. Lets see if they can take it in Dallas. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |
