James K.,
Amen to that brother. I was just down there the other day, but didn't get to make it out to the practices. We should be pretty good this year, but i don't see a championship, but top ten will do.

yeah i understand that the sec is a hard place to come out of. so tell me why we got shafted two years ago. no please dont. J-ro our quarterback is brandon cox, very solid, arm strength is questionable, but his accuracy is among the best ever. he played at my rival high school and put up 435 passing yards against us. he will be a junior and he is very solid. our back up is a freshman who was ranked the 4th best QB in the nation comming out of high school. that was pre ACL surgery, so we will see how that goes. he is really fast and has a very strong arm. we have the chance to win every single game. Florida has been the big talk around here lately. (the students are scared of that game) my take on florida is that there offence under meyer has the ability to be ungodly but there offensive line is not very deep (whos is?) and there defence really needs some work. and they have not had a tailback step up to play. meyer keeps threatning that he will run an empty back set... a lot. i dont think they are as strong as many people say they are...especially not when they come to the JUNGLE BABY!!! the game that scares me is LSU... two fluff games and then LSU, that is kinda scary

James K.,
At least we don't have LSU away again, that was about horrible, we had it if it was at home, or if john vaughn didn't suck a I'm an idiot.
I am worried about our recieving and Secondary on Defense more than anything. Herring is the only one still there IIRC. Aromashadu and obamanu are gone

well will herring is now an outside linebaker and is a preseason all american, i think he will be pretty awsome. our secondary could not be more incredible. between willhite, david irons, savage, we have a lot of skilled secondary players. our defensive line is good and fast, our linebakers are fast...very fast. we have some really good recievers too. courtney taylor is sick, and robert Dunn is looking very very good. also we have pretie rodriguz (sp) and Tim hawthorne, who will be a house hold name after the first three games. (i called it...remember that). i am worried that if one of our first team offensive linemen get hurt we are gonna be in real trouble!!
John vaughn kicked three 55 yard field goals in practice yesterday, it was amazing.
I was at the LSU game last year and I can still taste that sh*t in my mouth, it made me sick.

jt09 - DAMMIT... i hate going away on vacation & not seeing that post until now...
Yes, you are correct - its not my team anymore, but i can still cheer for them. UCONN football is nowhere CLOSE to a top25 spot... USC is coming along very nicely, well, minus the ongoing felony charges to a good amount of our players. But Stevie is turning the team around - Sidney Rice is an amazing WR and after being named top fresh in the SEC (with 13 TD's), he is going to have a promising season. Blake is a decent QB, but I think Steve might play one of his newly recruited QB's if they're looking good. Mike Davis got stronger as the season progressed last year and hopefully he'll continue to get better and better. With Boyd coming back in TE after surgery, and the NCAA allowing him to play as a 6th yr senior, he'll be a big help on offense. I just started getting hooked on college football last year, so I'm still learning about it. Sorry if I can't ramble on for pages about teams, but atleast give me some credit for trying...

not much on it at texags.. It has been pretty much a joke this whole year between the doom and gloom and the sunshine pumpers. I just read one post that makes me want to shoot myself. The lows since Fran has got here...

Wakebrad, good news is that apparently Red Bryant isn't the one badly injured. Bad news is your best L (can't remember his name) apparently is, along w/ your other starting LB and Bryant. Can't find a reliable link, but I'll post one as soon as it comes up (you know Hornfans will have it post haste).

I don't know about that. How do 3 players all manage to get hurt at once?

Wakebrad, They all came together at the same time on the ballcarrier was my guess. It was Dodge and Warren who were hurt the most. MRI on Dodge was negative and he should be back next Tues although he is on crutches. Sorry for the scare on Bryant - although he apparently was involved. Any of those 3 go down and it would have been a ROUGH year for y'all. I always like Warren and Bryant - don't know much about Dodge except plenty of folks think he's better than Warren.

That's no good. One thing we can not afford this year is injuries on D. Hopefully they will all recover quickly. Dodge is a 28 year old ex-military guy who is a little undersized but from what I hear is a great leader and has a great football sense. He was one of the top JUCO recruits in the nation out of california.

JT09 your longhorns better be ready when the buckeyes roll into town in a couple of weeks. Probably going to be the best game of the season anywhere. Probably going to determine which of the two teams runs the table and plays for a NC.

Man I am ready for some Football!!!!
Here is a quick run-down of how life in Texas revolves around football!
football in the north vs. football in Texas
SO TRUE:
Women's Accessories:
NORTH: ChapStick in back pocket and a $20 bill in the front pocket.
**TEXAS: Louis Vuitton duffel with two lipsticks, waterproof mascara, and a fifth of Captain Morgan/Crown. Money is not necessary - that's what dates are for.
Stadium Size:
NORTH: College football stadiums hold 20, 000 people.
**TEXAS: High school football stadiums hold 20, 000 people.
Campus Decor:
NORTH: Statues of founding fathers.
TEXAS: Statues of Heisman trophy winners.
Homecoming Queen:
NORTH: Someone in physics class
TEXAS: Also Miss America.
Cheerleaders:
NORTH: If you are slightly coordinated, you make the varsity squad.
TEXAS: You begin cheer camp at age two, complete with ballet, dance, & gymnastic training.
Getting Tickets:
NORTH: 5 days before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus and purchase tickets.
TEXAS: 5 months before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus & put name on the waiting list.
Friday Classes After a Thursday Night Game:
NORTH: Students and teachers not sure they're going to the game, because they have classes on Friday.
TEXAS: Teachers cancel Friday classes because they don't want to see the few hung-over students that might actually make it to class.
Parking:
NORTH: An hour before game time, the University opens the campus for game parking.
TEXAS: RVs sporting their school flags begin arriving on Wednesday for the weekend festivities. The really faithful arrive on Tuesday.
Game Day:
NORTH: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.
TEXAS: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast, and rushes over to where ESPN is broadcasting "Game Day Live" to get on camera and wave to the idiots up north.
Tailgating:
NORTH: Raw meat on a grill, beer with lime in it, listening to local radio station with truck tailgate down.
TEXAS: 30-foot smoker fires up at dawn. Cooking accompanied by live performance by "Dave Matthews Band, " who comes over during breaks and asks for a hit off bottle of bourbon.
Getting to the Stadium:
NORTH: You ask "Where's the stadium?" When you find it, you walk right in.
TEXAS: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day it becomes the state's third largest city.
Concessions:
NORTH: Drinks served in a paper cup, filled to the top with soda.
TEXAS: Drinks served in a plastic cup with the home team's mascot on it, filled less than halfway with soda, to ensure enough room for Captain Morgan/Crown.
When National Anthem is Played:
NORTH: Stands are less than half full, and less than half of them stand up.
TEXAS: 100, 000 fans, all standing, sing along in perfect four-part harmony.
The Smell in the Air after the First Score:
NORTH: Nothing changes.
TEXAS: Fireworks, with a touch of Captain Morgan/Crown.
Commentators
NORTH: "Nice play."
TEXAS: Dammit, you slow sumbitch - tackle him and break his legs!
Commentary (Female):
NORTH: "My, this certainly is a violent sport."
TEXAS: Dammit, you slow sumbitch - tackle him and break his legs!
Announcers:
NORTH: Neutral and paid.
TEXAS: Announcer harmonizes with the crowd in the fight song, with a tear in his eye because he is so proud of his team.
After the Game:
NORTH: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.
TEXAS: Another rack of ribs goes on the smoker.
While somebody goes to the nearest package store for more bourbon; planning begins for next week's game.

what did everyone think of the games last night?
Carolina's QB Mitchell is in trouble... if Miss. State gave him that much trouble, I'm nervous for when Auburn & Florida come that way... Anyone see that one HUGE hit on him? He got killed

Yea Aubs, watched the game start to finish....55" of HDTV. That gave me just enough screen space to make out what seemed like half an offense if you combined both teams. Game was just UGLY.
The good news for you. SC has their firsts game behind them and have a win, that is always nice.

Remember when people were giving me grief last year for bitching about ABC not having many games in HD? Those fools have never experienced the greatness that is football in HD. A religious experience.
