wakeboarderdave1, that too. I am just talking about the timing. The Rose is a New Year's Day tradition.
The +1 makes more sense from this standpoint, but how to go about it is a different story.

Not every year you need a +1 though. Most years you do though. What do you do in the years you don't? I don't really think the Media should be so involved. They aren't the ones out there playing. The coaches know more about it than most of the media. It's flawed any way you look at it. Sure the playoff thing would be nice. In order to get it right you're going to need at least the top 16 teams. But that's way to many teams to let in, plus it would make the season way to long.

That said wakeboarderdave1, it would be interesting to see how many coaches even vote. Most probably leave that to their SID. Then you also have the issue to voting in your own conference for the money flow. Votes are votes and it is always going to have some human error.
All voting should be signed and public.

Let the bowls give the money. With the tourny no money is involved. Sole purpose is deciding the NC.

SEC best conference? I think so. This year alone, the SEC got 7 bowl games, LSU was declared the best 2-loss team in college football history, Arkansas had a sophmore running back finish second in the Heisman race, auburn won the 2007 pontiac game changing performace as well as was the only team to beat the national champions which i believe also came from the SEC.

The SEC doesnt get a fair shake. Almost every Saturday game is a bowl caliber game. Even the best teams are going to loose a game so getting the national championship is almost impossible. You simply cant have an off day in the SEC. In the SEC you face a USC, Texas or OST caliber team every weekend...Thats why I hate the BSC. You have a team like Auburn, Georgia, Tennesse and Florida that has played a serious schedule and taken major licks and they dont go to the national championship because they have lost a game.

See, I think we do know. I don't see how you can say that the 2 best teams in football didn't play last night. Both teams earned the right to be there.

This is the first year the SEC has done well at all in their bowl games. They are good this year but they get over-rated most years.

You can go back 10 years and say that about every single conference every other year.

BSU did have a close game with OU, but saying they squeaked by makes the game sound different than it was. BSU dominated OU the entire game. If that punt hadn't hit the BSU player, they would have won by double digits. I do think they could play with them on a regular basis, and I KNOW they would beat the OSU team that showed up last night.
Just to make sure I wasn't too biased, I watched the BSU game again... they out played OU mentially and PHYSICALLY.

How exactly did they dominate while OU was scoring 28 straight points? They outplayed OU for most of the game, but I do remember a nearly tragic collapse. Any of those plays go bad, OU wins and we are all mourning poor BSU and what might have been.
My point was that you can't just go back after the games and pick BSU to play in the "+1" game. What makes them any more deserving than LSU or USC or Louisville?

Pick the team of your choice..drop them in the SEC..and see what their record is after this line up..
Week 1 - Georgia
Week 2 - Florida
Week 3 - Tennesse
Week 4 - LSU
Week 5 - Auburn
Week 6 - Arkansas
Week 7 - Alabama
Thats what we face every week...Lets be honest no other conference compares right now in competition.

You can't put Tenn. on there they lost their bowl game to Penn State. Who I think wasn't even ranked before the bowl game. And Alabama(6-7) got waxed by Oklahoma State.
EDIT: Tenn is a tough team, I wouldn't say the elite of the SEC right now. That goes to UF and LSU. I think right now LSU and UF on netural fields would be one hell of a matchup.

Tbonez, who had that schedule? No one. I think the SEC is the best conference, but you aren't presenting an honest picture.

True, no one single team had that schedule. Most of the teams in the SEC face at least 4 or 5 of those teams. My point is, is that every year you are going to be facing 4 or 5 bowl games before you get to a real bowl. Can any other conference say that...In my honest opinion not even close.

Tbonez, Every conference has 5 or 6 bowl teams that everyone plays.
Pac 10 - 5
Big 10 - 7
Big 12 - 7
ACC - 7
SEC - 8
Look, if you want to talk conference strength, look at each conference and pull ou the teams you think can hang consistently against the other conferences. Do this for each conference. Conference w/ the most teams is the best. It is the SEC and it isn't close.

Well, to answer your question about who should play in the +1 game if possible... here is what people around the country had to say about it according to ESPN poll. BSU vs. Florida is the hands down favorite. Interesting enough, the votes for USC, LSU and Louisville came from the states those schools are in. Review those votes (and even Idaho's), and it is a landslide.

Tbonez, this year the SEC was grrrreate. But the previous 5 years the Big 12 and the ACC have performed better in their bowls. The SEC teams beat each other up every week but in the past they still suck it up in their OOC games. So while the SEC always looks like a powerhouse conference because of the tradition at each school, they haven't lived up to the hype until this year.

Wakebrad, feel like doing the research to back that up?
05 - LSU, Bama, Florida won, USC, Aub, UGA lost 3-3
04 - Tenn, UGA Auburn won, Bama, UF, LSU lost 3-3
03 - Ark, Aub, UGA, Miss, LSU won, UF, Tenn, lost 5-3
02 - Miss, UGA, Aub won, Ark, Tenn, LSU, UF lost 3-4
01 - Bama, LSU, Tenn, UF won, UGA, Aub, Ark lost 4-3
2 games over .500.
Here's the link. I challenge you to find ANY conference with a signifigantly better winning % than any other over 5 years.

I've done the research before. I'm pretty sure the ACC and Big XII are close if not better in their OOC/Bowls.

So how is close, or slightly better, an indictment of the SEC? I highly doubt there is a signifigant difference between any of the top 5-6 over a 5 year period.

We should be somewhere in the range of 7-12 by signing day.
jt09, well, I think my research was mainly based on the '05 season but anyhow, the results show that though the SEC seems to be significantly better it doesn't show when they play other conferences, which is the true measure of how strong a conference is.

Pretty late to this conversation, but what a dissapointing game. T. Smith flopped big time. The Florida D was amazing, but I would have been more impressed had T Smith not sucked so bad when he had opportunities.
Most of the time he had no chance, but whenever he did, he was shorting his receivers. It was just painful to watch. I'm glad I watched the BSU OU game, now that was great game.
