I'm going to fit a tower on to my 1990 Mastercraft but before I do so, I'd appreciate some input as to how much strengthening work needs to be done to the boat. I was planning on glassing in 6" square pieces of either 1/4" or 1/2" marine ply to help distribute the load under each foot. Has anybody out there fitted a tower to an older mastercraft and what additional strengthening, if any, did you apply?

If you do the 6" square glassed in you will be in great shape. If the fiberglass is 3/8" thick you would be fine without any reinforcements but it's cheap insurance and peace of mind if your up for it. Check out the instruction manuals at our site (www.MonsterTower.com), http://www.13thfloortowers.com/install_manuals.htm and http://www.skylonsports.com/pdf/Swoop%20X-Treme.pdf and other tower builders to see references on this.
