The bane of my boat is that I have to manually fill my sacs. I have cut out a couple of the steps by plumbing in lines (hoses) directly to the sacs and split the water coming in off the pump so I only have to hook up the pump one time to fill 2 sacs. I have been using one of those Rule 1100 GPH pumps, but it is 2-3 years old and isn't quite filling as fast as it used to so wanted to upgrade.
In my quest to fill my sacs faster I bought one of these 1220 GPH Tsunami aerator pumps. I then hooked up a 1 1/8 hose to the outlet and cut the plastic intake down from about 4 inches to 2 inches so it can prime easier when emptying sacs.
In turns out that the retrofitted Tsunami pump will not fill my sacs at all. I disconnected the pump from the sacs and it only pumps water if you hold the discharge hose under 2 feet of vertical height off the water and even when held just off the water, it still seems to slower than the 1100GPH Rule pump.
The question is has any one else used these pumps? Have they worked? Did I somehow screw up the pump by cutting down the intake or did I just get a defective pump? As it stands now, I can get a refund or a replacement and do not know which way to go.
Are there any faster 12v pumps I could use without investing in an auto balast system? The sacs seem to empty fine, but filling them seems to take forever.
I hope that wasn't too much to go through. Thanks!
I figured it out. The cig lighter adapter I used to wire it did not have any way to discern + or - and when I reversed the wiring in pumped like a mofo. I guess they pump a lot faster when the impeller is turning in the correct direction.
