|
|
I've seen a few threads about using different boards as a wake surfboard, but none that address a skimboard. Has anyone tried wakesurfing with one of these?
If you've never seen one, a skim board looks like a really short surfboard with no fins on the bottom. They are extremely flat and smooth on the bottom to skim over wet sand.
Thanks for any help,

Skim boards are impossible to surf on, as they barely float. |

Not true at all. Depending on your skill level and the size of the skimboard it could actually do quite well. It might be hard to find after a fall though. _________________ wakeboards

I should really keep up with the threads that I start...my bad.
Anyway, I have a Victoria skimboard (you can see it in the pic...I'm the fat one with the "flamer board")
critter1 if your husband was able to use his skimboard as a wake surfboard, I think I will be able to use mine...it's in VA though, so I will have to get it back first...maybe next summer. _________________ Whoever coined the term "Near Beer" was a very poor judge of distance... |

The problem is that a skim board was not designed to have fins. When a Phase5 style board is being built a piece of pcv is inserted into the foam were the thru holes are going to be to bolt the fins on. So if you simply drill holes thru a skim board there is a good change that water will get into the foam and possibly damage the board over time. If I was going to convert a skim to surf I would fill the drilled holes with silicon before pushing the bolts through to help seal the foam. Depending on the rocker etc. a skim board with a fin should make a good wakesurf board _________________ Surf's Up!!!
