|
|
I just started trying the backroll and the 10 times or so I've done it I always slide out at the end. It feels like as soon as I see the water I hit it, slide out and the rope is yanked hard all at the same time. I do tend to be looking at the board and water when it's all going down. Anyone been through this and have any tips - I'm dying to stomp it and move on to something else.

Try not to angle your board so much sideways when you land...You want it to be facing the direction that you are headed. Try hucking it into the flats a little more, since not landing on the downside of the wake will help you not slide it out.
Keep in mind that I'm no pro by any means, so take my advice with a grain of salt...but the backroll just happens to be one of the inverts I've been able to do for about 8 years. _________________ http://kmags.mybrute.com/

You are right there, nothing to worry about, you will land the trick soon....
Keep the handle in tighter off the wake other than that, looks real close. _________________ PEACE

| Thanks for the pos feedback. It looks alot closer on the video then it does in person. I have pro boarder coming to my house tomorrow to work on this with me and some other stuff plus work with my 7 year daughter. I was wanting to get as much feedback before then. I was thinking the same about the rope, if I had more give I could absorb the landing - in the video it looks like i'm i'm fully extended on the landing. |

I feel your pain. I haven't wakeboarded in a while but back when I was trying the backroll I went through the same thing.

I tried a number of different things, I would let go of my back hand in the air to stop the rotation. I would try to get a much more lofty jump so I pop more upwards and not have to rotate as fast. The one time I did land it I just came around and held on to the rope for dear life, I did a huge side slide in the landing and pulled it out. It was very ugly, but I was pumped so I tried it again and hurt myself.
Just keep at it and remember that you want to have it feel natural and not force the rotation because you end up doing 1.5 rotations (I once thought of skipping a backroll and going straight for a double back roll, I could only get 1.75) _________________ Wakeboard/Waterski/Kneeboard/Ride Random Objects

| I'm no expert and can't even do one... but it looked to me like overrotation by a tad. |

Yipee!
I landed 2 back to back this morning and rode away. The big key for me was to focus on the boat (verus watching the water and the board) as soon a I came around. It made it super simple to get on edge and pull away. Makes you really understand how important what you look at matters.
As an added plus I was able to bust my board (trans plat 06) in half on a failed previous back roll. My wife is running over as I write this to pick up the replacement. I actually ended up landing this on my 05 abs plat - which I don't ride as well as my transcend.
Thanks for everyones help. It all added up! |

| Definetly is cool feeling and a releif. Everytime you talk to someone who even knows what wakeboarding is they always say can you go upside down. Now the answer can be YES. Plus my 4yr son has been on me to do it. |

You are doing the trick, but you aren't LANDING the trick. I know this seems obvious, but hear me out. You make no attempt to land the trick. Doing the flip, and landing it are two different things. You need to prepare for landing. You need to try to absorb the landing with your knees. Concentrate on the landing, like you are concentrating on the flip. Think about a simple wake jump. What would happen if you did a jump, and just landed, without absorbing your knees, or prepping for the landing in any kind of way? Landing is an important part of any trick. Also, there is a mental thing involved. It is amazing that once you land a trick, it becomes almost instantly easier to land. I think a lot of that deals with mental confidence. Stick the landing. Go in there trying to stick the landing. Flipping the board around and ending up in good landing position is nice, but if you don't actually attempt to stick the landing, then it is all for nothing.
Also, be happy... You are about to land a new invert any day now
Just keep trying. |

Mike McLin,
You may have missed the Yipee! reply above.
I did stick it and stuck it good. The backroll is a piece of cake of now. I had a pro-boarder at my house yesterday morning and she helped me to focus on the boat when I came around versus the water and bam it was as easy as landing a hs jump - piece of cake. Now I'm going to work on a TS back flip so I have one from the other wake and then of course take the HS roll fricking huge and try throwing a melon grab in. Upside down is way cool! |
