Well, after a handful of trys I finally managed to get up. When people say let the boat do the work, they're not kidding. At first I tried fighting the boat (big mistake), but eventually I figured it out. Now, that I'm up I was hoping for some pointers. When I got up and was going, my spotter told me I seemed kind of hunched over. Shoud I be leaning back more? I found it required quite a bit of strength to keep the rope at my front leg? Is this common or is my positioning wrong? I don't know of anyone who wakeboards, so you guys are my only hope Wink.

I tried teching someone this weekend... And the more I told him to quit fighting the boat, the more he fought it! I told him the next time the handle landed in the boat I was leaving him in the lake. He finally got up! As I told him, and now you, "Wakeboarding is a sport, and with any sport you need to find a happy place." If you're having a hard time holding the handle to your hip, the boat is moving too slow. Also, bend at the knees, not at the waist. Some people may argue with me about this, but if you don't keep your waist semi-stiff while carving you're doomed for face plants.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try bending at the knees and not the waist.

$30, "The Book" DVD.
Well worth the money.
www.thebookdvd.com

I tried wakeboarding last weekend for the first time having only watched the DVD for instruction. I got up on the 4th or 5th try and by the 2nd day went around our whole lake. There are 4 or 5 volumes in the entire series, but "Getting Started" has plenty to keep me busy. Highly recommend!

Yea, if you hunch forward at the waist, your center of gravity is off balance, and you will tend to look down more, most likely causing you to fall down more. Not to mention back pain, lack of comfort, etc.... Not to mention you will tend to be pulled forward. That and keep the handle/rope at your waist, it will help out.

This video helped me immensely. You can download it for 7 days for $3.99 or buy it on DVD for $34.95. Everything you need to know as a beginner is covered here. Definitely worth checking out. Cool
