yeah, I'm not getting enough pop, and I think my rotation is too slow. I'm pretty sure I'm bending over too much at the waist, but what else am I doing wrong? Here's the video:

tell me what I'm doing wrong, I want to land this next time I go out!

Nice attempt Nathan.

Stand taller on your cut and put increased pressure on that toeside edge, build up more power for your release. You shouldn't have to squat like that, use a true edge to carry you up the wake and just think of lifting straight up off the wake. The nose should release straight up towards the sky, and it looks like you have the rotation part down.

Very important- Don't drop your rear hand so early, use both hands for your release to keep that line loaded- that is what will give you the power you need to take off and complete the rotation, you are losing most of your line tension and power as soon as you drop that rear hand. Try to hold it with both hands until you can see your landing, letting go w/ one hand will slow the rotation down but it will also help you settle and control yourself on the way down.

Jim has a good point if you approach it more like a HS back roll meaning getting more progressive on the edge as you hit the wake the power you generate will boot the board up and around so you don't need to huck it back over yo head, it will happen more naturally.

And keeping both hands on the handle till you spot the landing is key for the first 50 attempts or so.... once you can land them you naturally wait longer to look up and over with your head, this means you are going higher and have more time so you can get away with rotating with one hand (slower rotation).. but if you let go with the back hand you should be reaching for that Indy grab TS backroll..

good attempt, you should be landing it soon.

oh man! now I see what y'all are saying, I'm really hucking it like a true backflip like I do on the ground. I should be letting the wake throw me into the flip like on a hs backroll.
is this right?
cool... now I'm pumped...

I think I had a similar problem to yours when I was learning my tantrum. I tried to huck it right as I left the wake. I got no height and the rotation was ugly. I think you should wait to be kicked from the wake and gradually throw your head back and let the momentum from the wake do most of the rotation for you. To me it looks like you are trying to huck it too early. Hope this helps, post a a vid once you get it!

Use what the wake gives you. Try a 60 to 65 foot rope and start your approach 10 to 15 feet out from the wake. Take it straight up and most important keep your eyes open.

Peace

oh well, I almost landed it again, I might have if I was uninjured, but I landed some HS backrolls and stuff so it was a good day...
