I have an 06' Bayliner 205 for those who know the numbers but its a 20 footer with a V8 and no tower of course. It creats a pretty good wake I suppose I've never been behind anything different on wakeboarding so i wouldnt know how well an actually engineered wakeboarding boat would be. As of yet I havent had any problems with getting up or jumping but i understand the dramatic differences between being pulled from sun deck with no lift and a being pulled from the top of a tower. I understand that i will be pulled down instead of up so it could be a little bit harder to do flips but i think with a little will power i can work around it. My main question is will it hinder my progress to becoming an exceptionally good wakeboarder to have fun and impress the ladies!?

Yes it will. i have been wakeboarding for a while and until recently we just got a tower. It helped dramatically. without one you will never really be able to do any tricks that are worth watching. i suggest getting a MONSTER TOWER. It is the best and it looks good on your boat.

No, towers will not help you with your tricks until you start doing 900's and tricks as big or bigger than that. Until you get to the height that you start getting slack when doing tricks, you do not need a tower. However, it will help you get more weight in the boat by getting people in the backseat. It is also convenient for speakers, board racks, etc....

Yeah, like i said before along time ago that which nobody agreed with me, it seemed like....but towers help ALOT exp. when you load the line right, and phisics will kick in from there and pull you in the air much higher

Again, if you can show me hard proof that a tower will improve performance unless you are doing very very hard tricks that require 6+ feet of air.

Hmmmm physics....

Lets say..

1. you are capable of edging hard enough to pull the rope out of your hands

2. you ride at about 60'

Go to the gym and get on a rowing machine. See how much weight you can row.

Take that weight and divide it by 10 (60 ish feet / difference in pull height between tower and no tower or about 6 feet)

So a fat guy like me weights 250 and can row 300lbs. Which means with a tower I jump like a 220 lb guy would.

There is your proof that it helps.

the height thing sounds about right and It will be to the point where i cant get too high because time wont allow me to do so because i will be ultimatly pulled down by being hooked to the stern from the boat. but as far as improving it may only give me more time to do something if i had a tower. but i guess we'll see what happens eh?

Although it seems as if it would make sense, you have to go REALLY high to actually have the stock pylon pull you down, and I am talking 6+ feet of air (from your board to the water). It isn't a necessity, but it is nice to have for reasons I mentioned above (free up back seat, board racks, speakers, mirrors, looks, jumping off it, etc....). I would buy it to have fun and to help impress the ladies with its looks, but don't expect a noticable improvement in your riding.

I don't care what anyone says, if you don't have the correct technique a tower is useless. People put too much emphasis on the higher tow point, but that doesn't mean jack if you suck anyway.

hco....

At no point did I ever say that the plyon would pull you down.

WHEN IN THE AIR the line tension is minimal, and thus the pull down effect of the D-ring or the pull up effect of the tower is very very little.

WHEN LAUNCHING the line tension that you build is key, it generates a great deal of the pop. It does matter D-ring vs tower for your launch. To the maximum effect that I calculated in a previous post.

That equation doesn't prove anything though, it did not make any sense to me. I also do not understand why you are using a d-ring instead of the stock smaller pylon on a boat.

hopefully this helps.

If you are using the pylon vs the tower, then put the difference in height where the 6 is in my drawing and recalculate.

I do agree, however, that with bad technique none of this matters.

(hopefully there is a picture attached)

hco, why do you have to argue with everyone just except that towers help.

I love towers, I am just trying to prevent a giant myth/rumor from spreading. Too many people think that a tower will help you boost like 3+ feet higher, or make the starts oh so easy. I love them, and if I had the cash I would have one, but unfortunately I just stick with an extended pylon. HOWEVER, I do agree that they help you, but again, only with the right technique. SO, since people have to ask about a tower, my guess is they do not have the technique, thus my reasoning for seemingly posting against towers. Again though, in most of my tower posts I also mention that they are useful for other reasons, and that I reccomend getting one, just not for the fact that it will improve your performance alot.
