Ok, just injured my lower back riding my new LF Fish, it is supposed to have a very soft landing.
A recent article on softer landings said to spot the landing and land balanced front to back and heel to toe.....
I always thought landing on an edge was the way to go....

Whats up???

I wouldn't blame your back problems on the Fish...

Either you didn't interpret the article right, or it was a bad article! If you 'spot the landing', you will naturally come down hard. Its kind of like driving a car towards oncoming headlights if that makes sense. You will have better luck coming down soft and in control if you stare towards the shoreline or further out into the flats. I know that sounds like a bad plan, but it really does help your body prepare for the landing without 'stomping' it on the way down.

About your weight- definitely land on your heels for heelside and toes for toeside. I try to land extra low on toeside jumps just to make sure I absorb the hit. You can slap the water with your rear hand to make sure you are out over your board.

Also hold your edge and take it into the flats as soon as you hit- it helps keep the board locked in and it will help you form good tendencies and fundamentals.

could also just be that you are out of wakeboard shape? I have been riding for a while and frequently, but when I took 4 long sets the other day, the next day I was definitely feelin it and I'm 17... takes a lot for we young'uns (not that I didn't go riding anyways though Laughing )

k9fxr is just a big wimp Wink

I rode his board that same day he hurt himself, they should call the fish the backbreaker, it lands like a brick compared to an absolute or transcend. It's so wide I don't see how it could displace that much water. My lower back hurt afterward as well and my back NEVER hurts. It also could be that we are a bunch of old f'rs - but lets blame it on the board.[/quote]

Take that advice.. I have a bad habit of spotting my landing and watching it when I stomp it out in the flats and thats usually when the knee brace velcro straps go ripping apart. Definately find the landings much smoother when I focus on a spot further out in the flats the direction of my edge.
