I was riding at Miami Marine Stadium yesterday and there was a thunderstorm pumping out lightning about a mile away, but we kept riding. Is there a rule of thumb dealing with lightning and wakeboarding that anyone goes by in here. _________________ I love the smell of napalm in the morning |

Gee, lets see, lightning hits the nearest highest point. Metal tower, roughly 8-10 feet off the water. Not to mention a great conductor.
A good rule is dont. More than good actually. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

Ok i knew that was coming. But is there a rule such as: if you see it then get out or wait untill you hear thunder 10 seconds after the flash. Something like that. I ride in key largo and miami and there are always storms. _________________ I love the smell of napalm in the morning |

Read the papers more, ppl get struck when the storm isnt even around. I dont mean to be a dick, but i live in davie, its stupid to play out in FL weather. We were riding last week and all of the sudden we had lightning strike probably 500 ft away, sounded AWFUL. There was no previous lightning, just cloudy. Theres just no way to predict it, dont wanna read about you in the newspaper _________________ http://www.myspace.com/wannabess

If you are looking for the distance count, its something like a 5 count per mile. Between the flash and the boom. But like wannabe said, its not that simple, and much more random. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |
