I'm planning on driving across the US and I know that there are companies that drive cars across the country. How would I become a driver for one of these companies? I've heard that you even get paid. It sure would beat driving my own car or renting one. Does anyone have any information about this?

Just curious... Why would someone pay to have someone else drive their car across the country? I would have it shipped by truck. I cant see how it would be cheaper to pay for gas and pay a driver, rather than puting it on a semi and getting in on a group rate.

I hope it works out for you though. I dont have any info to help you, good luck.

You would need to check with each rental company to see if the have anything that needs to be returned. Occasionally Uhaul will have something like that Laughing Laughing Laughing

We checked with one of the companies that ships cars and a lot of people choose the cheaper route of having a driver drive your car across country. They told us to call 5 days before we left and they would have a car for us and a tank of gas. It beats a rented Dodge neon and beating up my car for sure. We'll only do it if it's a decent car.

impulse, using a truck is more expensive. Since you are keeping your vehicle in prestine condition, and not having it driven, it demands a higher price. Plus the driver, truck, trailer, diesel, and insurance on it are pretty pricey. Regardless if it's just your car, 3 cars, or 6 cars. The rate's the same for you.

Most of the time you only ship by truck if it's something you don't want seeing the road, off-road rig, custom car, show car, etc.

DCdave56, why are you driving across country? Just for grins? Exploring? Or just trying to get fomr west to east?

My buddy is getting married in Maryland and we have been thinking about a road trip. But my wife refuses to drive our new car. What would be better than road tripping in someone elses car?
