First just get your edging down and feel comfortable on the board this will save you a lot of crashes and soreness when your done with this and truly feel comfortable its time to pull up your skirt and charge the wake. The harder you cut in the farther you will travel (its science). A progressive edge is an edge that gets harder and harder as you cut into the wake with the edge taken through the wake. There are lots of better explanations on this site.

The video shows the classic mistake of being too agressive at first then completely flattening off at the wake. That guy would have gone up twice as far if he had held the edge all the way up the wake.

With progressive edging the most important thing is to do nothing at first, letting the boat start to pull you back in towards the wake then gradually edging and letting those in the boat see the underside of your board more and more until the huge pop at the wake. keeping the handle low will help as well.

Good luck

man, you guys are alot nicer than most. this question is a sticky in the top of the forum. i am amazed at how many times you guys can answer this question without screaming at them to use the search function.

and yes the progressive edge is the way to do it. i did it for the first time tuesday and it works.

can the length of the rope make it harder to jump it or does that not matter

Well, if the rope is longer, you'll be riding farther back, and the wake is wider the farther back you go. The wider the wake, the more aggressive cut you will need to take to clear it. If you're just learning to go w2w, keep the rope length relatively short, somewhere between 55 and 65 ft.

yah, what dj said just work on your pop! anyone can clear the wake if they go fast enough, but cleering the wake at a very low elevation is not impressive
