My family just got a new boat, and i want to get into something more fun than tubing or waterskiing. I'm looking into wakeboarding, but my parents are concerned about how dangerous it is. Could you guys tell me about the dangers of wakeboarding, whats the worst that could happen? Thanks
Bill

death...
but you can die driving to the boat.. walking across the street etc.
if you get good and try hard tricks its not un-common to hurt knees, concussions, bruises, cuts. etc. etc.

twisting your knees or ankles is a possibility with wakeboarding. however...if you get a good pair of bindings (the correct size, etc) and you wear the bindings snug but loose enough to come off in a big fall, the possibility is greatly reduced.

besides...there are certain risks/dangers involved in most all sports but following good safety habits can save you from most of them.

and like kind said, the dangers start increasing with the harder tricks - inverts and stuff like that and most likely you won't be doing those for a while.

so what i would suggest (if your parents are so worried) is...see if they will let you take a lesson or clinic...then you can try it and they can see first hand!

billabob1234, you won't have the bindings THAT loose, so you can still do simple tricks. i wear mine pretty snug and they always come off in a big faceplant or whatever. i really think if you read up about wakeboarding on here, get a video, or take a lesson and follow good safety you will be fine.
