Hey, I am in need of some help & I am not sure if the advice I am hearing is helping me or not. I have been wakeboarding 4-5 times now, it took me 2 lake visits to finally get up. Although I am enjoying my ride behind the boat, I will not be satisfied until I can start jumping... which is basically the point of wakeboarding. So if you could point out anything I am doing wrong and note the time in the movie (like at 0:24 - <insert screwup here>) I would greatly appreciate it. Make comments on my stance, edging, rope positioning, leaning, etc. This was my third attempt at a heelside edge, the rest have been toeside because our boat's wake is crisper (damn I/O & manual trim). Because I've been doing a lot of toeside, in this run on the video I finally felt what edging feels like going towards the wake & I quickly get out of it for some reason.

The video I made is 10mb, so if any of you are on 56k or would like a smaller video let me know and I'll upload one. Thanks.

Just from one quick watch.

Your bending over at the waist a little, that's putting you off balance.

Hold the rope a bit tighter to your lead hip, while edging toeside your waving the handle around, which is causing you to loose control.

It might be an idea to work on your control a bit more before you start jumping, you seem the be placing a bit too much weight on your back foot, this is causing the noose to rise a bit too far out of the water and making the board feel loose.

Try work on your edging a good bit more, try drifting towards the wake then cut away on your edge, try to develop a harder edge each time you cut.

How are your ollies, have you got them down yet?

For your actual jump, you didn't coast at all, coasting is a very important aspect of progressiving edge for w2w jumps, so cut out TS as hard as you can, then coast, other wise you'll loose line tension because you are changing to HS too fast and causing the rope to go slack.

Also keep your edge right through the wake and stand up tall as you hit the top of the wake.

You may be trying to run before you can walk, so back things off a bit and work on you edging and then try some hop outs before attempting w2w's.
If you get your basics down tight then you'll be jumping in no time. Have a bit of patience.

Good Luck.

OH, maybe invest in an instructional DVD, they are very helpful and film each of your runs and watch out for where you can improve your technique.

I agree with alot said above. The boat was looking like it was going slow. Also, try to straighten up, you were hunched at the waist, causing you to lose your balance. Also, don't put so much weight on your back foot, put some weight on your front foot. On top of all of that, what is your stance like? It looked like you had your bindings like you were on a ski. Furthermore, like said above, try to do some little things like ollie and stuff before you try w2w and jumping.

When you are cutting in your not getting a constant speed. keep gaining speed. You slowed down before you hit the wake. And always remember to bend your knees.
