How would you know if your waterpump mtd. on your block is bad. I'm having a heating problem and I have went through everything and everything is good except the thermostat and maybe the water pump.
took the thermostat out and let the engine run and the block and the log style exhaust heads were hotter than hell.. Actually 192 degrees. That was at about 2000 rpm. Risers are getting water or enough to keep them cool, but it is the water that is going through the block. Yes the impelling in my lower unit is working and new and nothing is clogging the lines.
I pulled the water circ pump off and it has all kinds of scaleing, etc but it is the first time I have messed with one of these. I'm thinking about just buying a new one anyways, but i'm getting tired of spending $$ and getting no where with this problem.
Thanks for any help |

With the thermostat off, it should be circulating constantly (keeping the engine cooler than usual). I assume you're seeing water come out the back (proving it's circulating)? On mine (and I assume most), the raw water pump brings water up into the system and cools headers, etc., but it's the circulation pump that moves it through the block the same as in a car... I'd check closely to make sure it's working and nothing's clogged in that housing.
i just had a similar prob for the first time Sunday... never had a cooling prob before, but when heading back from a far end of the lake at full throttle, it warmed up on me and eventually died. My steps for tomorrow will be troubleshooting the thermostat and the circulation pump... You can find good deals on a lot of that stuff at ebasicpower.com... I know water's moving through my block too, I just can't tell if it's enough, or if the thermostat is malfunctioning. |

thanks for the help.
Yes their is water coming out of the rear. Not sure if it is what it is suppose to be or not. i did put a garden hose to my lines and back flush it incase something was up in there. I'm down to thermostat, water circ pump or corrosion in the block. My buddy told me yesterday he had a pump on his spare engine and we are going to try that out and see if that cures it first. If not, I guess will will pull the heads. Bummer |
